A sorority chapter at UNC Asheville has suspended operations after more than 20 members quit amid accusations of racism.

Former Alpha Xi Delta sorority chapter vice president Kayla Bledsoe wanted to create a diversity, equity and inclusion committee. She said some white members had no interest and the national office also rejected the idea.
A change.org petition was started to remove the chapter from campus. It has generated 200+ signatures, although, it's unclear as to when it was first created.

So this is all because their nationals wouldn’t rubber stamp a DEI committee?

Have these people never heard of the phrase “just do it”?

This article displays the post they put up (repeatedly) on the chapter’s Facebook page. If you jump to the page directly, there is also a statement posted from the former members who resigned.

Ditto.

“We were asking for funds to pay the speakers because they were Black and brown people and in minority groups we thought they should be compensated for their time,” Bledsoe said.
Seriously?

ETA: just for context, there is only one other sorority on campus and total is 35. In other words, it’s not like these women are fighting to be heard in a giant Greek system or a 300 member chapter.
