LSU Fiji chapter pays off former house cook's mortgage
https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_ro...6bca995b9.html
Jessie Hamilton had been working 2 jobs or more since she was 14. This included 14 years as a cook at the Fiji house at LSU. She bought a house and took out a 30-year mortgage at age 60 and planned to keep working until the mortgage was paid off. A brother who remembered her from his collegiate days coordinated donations from 90 brothers, and presented her with a check on her 74th birthday. She can now pay off her mortgage and retire. There's even some money left over for her to spend on herself. Good job, gentlemen! |
What a fantastic and heartwarming story! This is the kind of "frat stuff" that should make the news, not just the troublesome things. Sounds like she's a wonderful woman who definitely impacted many of the members.

PROUD to be a Fiji brother with these fine young men!! Yes...we need to read more news like this—and I’m sure there are more such stories involving the Greek community as a whole.
Thanks for posting this FEEL-GOOD story over Easter weekend. |
Awesome Story

This is amazing. I wish stories like this would get plastered all over the news!

Chi-o-cat—Thanks so much for taking this one step further...you are RIGHT ON THE MONEY! I keep hoping paycheck equality and a LIVING wage instead of just a MINIMUM wage will become a reality.
Charity and a helping hand are ALWAYS admirable and certainly welcome; I just wish they could more often be just the icing on the cake rather than the cake itself. |
It made the front page of the Washington Post, too:
