Alpha Chi or AChiO?
Which nickname does Alpha Chi Omega prefer to go by? On these boards, almost everyone seems to say Alpha Chi. However, at my school, they only go by AChiO.
Just curious. |
Nationals want us to go by Alpha Chi, not A Chi O.

Depends on which campus you are at and literally which part of the US you are in. In Texas almost all chapters use AChi O (even though the websites say Alpha Chi). The UT chapter goes by AChiO b/c there is an honor society that is Alpha Chi. I met someone from Vanderbilt a few years ago and they say Alpha Chi there. I worked with a guy that went to Case and he says AChiO (he dated and AXO). I say AChiO b/c at A&M that is how we are known.

i always said AChiO in college. That's how we were known. but i know nationals wants us to be alpha chi. i think part of it has to do with chi omega being called ChiO. don't want to get the 2 confused.
i'm so used to saying alpha chi now. |
Yeah, everyone calls us A-Chi-O....like our shirts for Delt Games always say A-Chi-O. And if I tell someone I'm in Alpha Chi they're like what? And then I say A-Chi-O and they'll be OHHHH. But we're working on changing that, we always call ourselves Alpha Chi.

This never crossed my mind! It's just whatever pops out. I do think I use A-Chi-O in regular speech more frequently, but not exclusively.

I never really put much thought into it. We have cheers that say, "A-Chi-O" ... and "alpha chi (we are the best...)"...
If someone who is non greek asks me what I'm in ... then I say alpha chi omega because we also have chi-o, and people get confused. But if someone in the greek community asks me, then I say "Alpha Chi" or "A-chi-o", but rarely A-chi-O because I ALWAYS get the question, "oh, I know someone in Chi-O" or "are you the same thing as Chi-O? lol |
