Sisters wearing letters during recruitment
So I now attend graduate school at Ole Miss, and I find it so interesting that during the day, active sisters are allowed to wear letters!
I just imagine some PNM cornering an active in the grocery store, who she spotted wearing letters, and trying to obtain invites, etc. I thought it was a NPC rule, as my undergrad chapter would get a HUGE fine if one of us wore our letters at all during recruitment week. Is this not the case? |
I don’t think it’s an NPC rule, but someone can correct me if I’m wrong. I know that my Alma Mater required sorority women to wear letters during strict silence so PNM’s knew who they weren’t supposed to speak to about recruitment.

I just read through the entire recruitment rules document at the university where I advise and there is no mention of wearing/not wearing letters. I always think of wearing letters as a double edged sword- if you look like you just rolled out of bed to go to class, leave off the letters. If you put in a bit of effort, wearing letters can be great PR.

That’s a terrible rule. It’s stuff like this that makes everyone go infraction crazy. The only people who shouldn’t be allowed to wear letters are the rho chis who have disaffiliated from their sororities temporarily- and even then I think the MOI says it should be no more than 30 days.

I've never worked with a campus that banned letters. News to me!

"No letters" is not a part of the current NPC MOI (Green Book.)
The current rule basically emphasizes positive Panhellenic contact for most of recruitment and the weeks leading up to it. Meaning you can wear letters and speak to PNMs on campus - cordially of course like "Hi Suzy how are you?" (if you happen to see her in the dining hall.) The big thing is don't avoid PNMs if you see them around - but you need to keep it general obviously not discuss recruitment. The strict silence (no talking to them if you see them outside recruitment) usually goes into effect before Pref and continues through MRABA signing and bid day. (Advisors help me out here if I am wrong) |
Most of my students at Ole Miss have an entire wardrobe of letter shirts ... Greek happens and it's what they wear!
