Some fans just go way to far. Its a shame he made her sufer. He should never work in the radio biz again.

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 12:53 AM

I've listened to Howard Stern and Jim Rome for YEARS, and NEVER have I heard such a classless thing.

Unregistered- 10-05-2002 08:40 AM

I read an article about this earlier today and it's just horrible [coming from a daughter of a mom who was widowed at a young age].

What's even more sick and appalling is that the guy in question is getting a slap on the wrist, if even that!...He should be dealt with accordingly, and I hope that fans and the public are successful in convincing the station to take action against him!

You just don't do that to people to boost your ratings. Who knows what he'll try and do next?

DeltaSigStan 10-05-2002 11:25 AM

Being a journalism major, and currently in a history of mass media class, I still wonder if I should go into that field, because these days, ethics and information have been replaced by ratings and muckraking.

Wow, I really am at a loss for words. How could anyone honestly consider that to be anything but hurtful and malicious?

I just sent an email to the link they had posted on the radio station's apology site. Not that it will do any good.

Actually, it could do some good. Especially if enough messages of outrage are received.

I will not go into a tirade about the state of today's broadcasting "professionals," particularly the so called "shock jocks," because then you would all realize what an old fogey I've turned into. I will just say, as a broadcaster of over thirty-five years, sometimes I miss the "iron fist" that the FCC used to govern the industry. Not often, but sometimes.

Especially in cases like this one.

I used to listen to that show all the time.

Not anymore.

texas*princess 10-05-2002 04:11 PM

wow. that is just downright terrible. i bet he wouldn't have thought it was so funny if it was someone called HIM if he were in that situation.

AlphaSigLana 10-05-2002 04:55 PM

Disgusting, despicable, etc! A week's punishment is hardly anything!
PBear- good for you for sending an email. Oftentimes people think nothing will be done so they don't do anything. What we need to do is complain etc bc soon others will follow.

Well, once the FCC's "iron fist" was relaxed (I'm thinking about the Fairness Doctrine being repealed), anything went. This is why you have shock jocks. Instead of being proactive, people are reactive.

I'm also a longtime Jim Rome listener. Jim's style is aggressive, some say abrasive, but he would never pull shyt like this imbecile did.

sororitygirl2 10-07-2002 11:46 AM

Okay, really... his parents should have raised him to know better. You just DON'T do things like that. I hope that people protest his show and he loses his job.

Here in St. Louis, it was all over the paper and the news, of course. The Diamondbacks and MLB demanded some sort of retribution from the station. Tony LaRusa (the Cardinals' Manager) said that if the team ever met the DJ, the matter "would be handled physically." And all of the radio stations in St. Louis were giving out phone numbers for that station down in Arizona to call and complain or harass them and their ownership. I really doubt that we've heard the last of this.
