I.C. Sorosis?
Hi Pi Phis...
Please take a look at this badge I saw on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...item=718761853 Is it possible that this is an original I.C. Sorosis pin? Just thought I would check...it only has about 17 more hours to go!!! Panhellenically, imsohappythatiama |
Omigosh, I don't know and the national offices would be closed by now. I think we've always had arrow pins but can't be sure. Wouldn't you know that tyoregon would have a bid on it.

Carnation,
Do you know anyone who might have a History book on Pi Beta Phi in which you could look up the possibility of IC Sorosis maybe having pins earlier than the arrow? I would hate to see tyoregon get this if it truly is a piece of Pi Phi history. BTW, from its looks and the workmanship, it appears to be old enough to be from the early IC Sorosis era...late 1860s... I hope we figure this one out before it's too late!!! I jsut look in the Pi Phi history book I have (1867-1967) and there is a picture of Jennie Nicol (one of our founders) with an arrow pin, she passed in 1881. So I do not think that pin belongs to Pi Phi. I would rather not say much more, but I am 90% sure that we have always had the arrow as our pin. It is rather curious. Before I.C. Sorosis adopted the greek letters Pi Beta Phi... the end of our pins had IC (where the Pi Beta Phi is now.

Do you know what the chapter President's badge looks like? Larger, and with "IC" instead of Pi Beta Phi letters? Well, those pins are based around the original IC Sorosis badge. If this is anything Pi Phi related, maybe it's some kind of early recognition badge... It's definately not an IC pin. Plus I've read about how the original founder debuted at Monmouth with "arrow pins in their hair". Evidently, the Pi Phis and Kappas originally wore their pins as hair decor.... Strange, eh?
Hehe... Can you tell I had a great new member instructor? I love you Emily! |
Yeah, badges used to be bigger for most of the sororities and they all wore them in their hair... I learned that in my new member education too.
