No Alumni Chapter
IN anticipation of my graduation, and the fact that I am moving back home, and know almost NO ONE anymore........I called headquarters, who informed me that there is No Alumni chapter.....in DC........WTH......especially since there are like a kadjillion chapters nearby.......anyway.
I was wondering what my other options were. I looked on another thread and got the impression that NPC has alum associations, is that true.....also, how do I go about getting invloved with a different collegiate chapter without being in a local Alumni chapter...... If someone out there could help I would appreciate it. |
If it helps any, I think it's wonderfully admirable that you're making such an effort. A lot of kids think their duty to their GLO ends at graduation.

I am not sure what sorority you are an alumna member of...
1) However, there definitely is a Washington DC Alumnae Panhellenic. (I know, cuz I checked here! ;) http://www.npcwomen.org/alumnae/a_directory.php ) Why not email the NPC, explain your situation and find out how you can get in touch with the Washington DC Alumnae Panhellenic? 2) Also...depending on how industrious you are feeling, you could look into starting a Alumnae Chapter or Alumnae Association for your particular sorority. I would email your HQ and find out how this might be done (or at least see if there are other fellow alumnae from your sorority in Washington, DC. -- you can probably bet that there ARE some around in DC). 3) You could also serve as a Panhellenic Advisor to one of the colleges in DC. This could be particularly desirable if your sorority is not represented on the campus, as you would be "unbiased" that way. GOOD LUCK! :D |
Definitely look into starting an alumnae chapter/club/association for your sorority! It is so rewarding and you will have a ton of support from your nationals to help with this!
Also - getting involved in Alumnae Panhellenic is a great way to meet other Greek sisters. |
I'm in the midst of starting a Junior Circle for AGD in my area (Junior Circle is an alumnae club for younger alumnae) because I was in a similar situation to you when I graduated. I sent a preliminary e-mail a couple of weeks ago, and of the responses I got back, most were along the lines of "Oh, I'm so glad someone is doing this. I have been waiting for someone to get this together." So, if you want an alumnae chapter, chances are that there are others who want one as well and just haven't taken the initiative to start one, or didn't know where to start. If you get the ball rolling, it will probably start to take off on its own.
My situation is a little different from yours in that I am only an hour away from my chapter, so I am able to be an advisor there. If you would like to get involved with chapters in the area, though, you should try contact them directly through either their president or their alumnae relations coordinator. My chapter had an alumna from another chapter come for recruitment this year because she had just moved into the area and she stumbled across our website and asked us what she could do to help. Good luck to you and let us know what you end up doing! :) |
There is some very Great advice to heed! Please, since you are going to be so far from you Home Chapter, keep up you interest in Your Sorority!
If it like LXA, it is for life! You will be able to meet people as you have on GC and become Pals with them as I have done! A prime example: Brother Jono Hren is a member of BN at Fl. Tech. I will be down there in a week and 1/2 for the 30 th Founders Day along with Several Brothers From around Fl and points else where! If you have a Kay Zillion Chapters near D.C. then you can meet many more Ladys of Your Soroity that you never had a chance to meet! They may have more interesting stories than you have! :D But you have a common thread of interest!:) Never lose interest as the Ladies you were and for now are some of the closest Freinds you will ever have! If you ever need a question answered, what a better place than The Group of GCers? The best of the best!:D |
