Collect those alum dues
Every chapter should have an alumni assn., with events (Homecoming, founders Day, golf tourn., and regular newsletters).
These shold be financed by annual alumni dues, something like $25. Dues bills, looking like something from a prestigious mens/womens club, should be mailed, along with reminders every six weeks. Hopefully, 20 percent or more will pay dues, making the program self supporting. |
Hoosier, you are right on!
While I started the Local KC Alum group, we have a President who I keep in contact with weekly! There are a few of us who put money in to pay for things so the many can benefit! Well, this is as usual of course. Have never sent out a bill for mailings! Now we will send out 2 e-m lings per year and 2 hard copies per year! IT must be done to keep the Alumni informed and updated to pique their interst and keep them wanting to be a member after a number of years! |
Good idea
As a chapter founder I applaud that idea! Alum dues to fund our newsletters would be great! We are struggling financially and wanted to start off having good alum relations! Thank you for the idea!

Whoa, how did this go blank???
I started the thread to ask - does your org have alum dues at the national level? If so, how onerous are they, and what do you get for them? I just asked because AXD does not have these, and I never heard of them until I came onto GC. I was wondering if people who had them felt they were a good idea? |
Alpha Gam has voluntary alumnae dues of $30. I think it helps out a lot.

Pi Beta Phi's annual international alumnae dues are $20. Local alumnae clubs may charge additional fees (My club's dues are $35) Personally, I don't think that is nearly as onerous as the fees our collegiate members pay. Does it help? Absolutely! I could go into a lot of boring IRS regs but bottom line is that the operations of the fraternity require member support in the form of dues-- that either comes from collegiate or alumnae members. I think I can afford it more than a college student, so I don't expect anything in return other than the sisterhood I feel when I go to a meeting.

Phi Beta has alumni dues on the national level. They are $50/year & include publications, funding for colonization, visits to chapters (including alum), etc.
Our national collegiate dues are either $30 or $40/year, so over the course of a few years in college and as an alum, I don't think we pay much more than those greeks who were maybe in bigger chapters at a big greek school. Ours is just spread out a lot more. :) |
Tau Beta Sigma
Our national alumni association membership costs $25 per year. This covers insurance, administration fees and the newsletter.

I pay $40 a month, but I'm not sure how much of that goes to my local chapter, and how much is for national dues.

Whoa folks.
There is a difference between Alum Assoc. dues and dues to your International. Alum orgs. do not have to charge dues. My Alum group is quasi with International. We are not registerd for a reason. But in some discussions, there are some of us who throw money in to pay for postage, we do the licking and stamping. Maybe it is because we are trying to get Alums to kick in to build a new house. But Yes if you have enough Alums in your Area then ask for dues. Why? Well, plan on 2 e-m mailings that dont cost anything but time, and 2 hard copy mailings as we do not have but @ 1/3 of the Fraternity Chapters e-m address. What is an Area Alum Group made up of? Is it people from your Chapter or Alums from different Chapters? That too could make a difference! If you have dues, what do you do with them? That is something to ponder on! |

Our National Dues are $40 per year, which goes to Headquarters. After that, each Alumnae Chapter/Club can charge their own dues in order to cover newsletters, programming, etc.
