Sorority Being Sued
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (the organization, a regional chapter and members of the group involved) is being sued for $100 million in a wrongful death suit involving the death of two of its new members in an alleged hazing incident.
How sad that something perceived as "fun" by some resulted in death--perhaps even in the name of sisterhood... Each of us as individuals, as women, as sisters, as people, as chapter members, as volunteers, and as an organization needs to be committed to reaching our full potential through positive means that nurture one another and support sisterhood and humanity in a positive way....hazing just isn't the way.........:( Iris |
AKA Suit
There is probably more to the story. It was on CNN last night. The police did not find the same "facts" as the attorny is alleging. I bet an attorney approached the family and promised them riches (what sorority has 100 million dollar policy?). I'm sure the chapter (of 4) are no angels but I doubt they are the monsters the press will make them out to be.
The good news is all this (if you look hard) is that our undergraduates (all men and women) will think twice before doing something stupid. At least this semester they will. Denise_DPhiE |
