I wish I had the figures from UCF. They had to lower their parking decal prices this year because the number of students versus the number of parking spaces is unproportional. It's so bad this year that if you want to get a parking space anytime from 9:30am-5pm, you will probably spend about 30-45 minutes looking for a space. The Zeta house is a long walk to my classes but at least I have somewhere to park my car. Unfortunately, it's still 90+ degrees here in Florida so I will arrive at class all sweaty. Ew.

Those numbers don't even begin to tell the story. Parking permits here are the most expensive in the state, and even if you manage to get one, you're still not guaranteed a space because the Parking Office oversells them. Spaces in the fraternity/sorority lots are extremely limited, and the stadium (where most people park) is a mile from my house. So a lot of my in-house sisters and I park on the street...but it's hell trying to find an open spot (takes at least a half an hour, if you're lucky), and the police are unforgiving. My truck is still upset about getting towed for no reason...

People always bitch that there is no parking at Valdosta but there are lots of spaces they are just not 200 feet from campus so everyone whines. We have a bus system that takes people to each lot. Some of the lots are further away from campus(not even 1/4 of a mile). People don't want to ride the bus and some lots remain empty. The school won't build anymore lots to all lots are used. And you know if they build more lots they will be not close to campus. People actually are so lazy they park on main campus in a 20 mins space and whine when the get a ticket while they were in there 50 min class. The people that park on campus with out a permit have no excuse either. The teachers have to pay more than the student for permits so of course they should get the closer and better spaces. Some students actually want to make the teachers park off campus and let the students have the space. They have it easy here. At the big schools you might have to park 2 miles from campus.

there are fewer teachers than students, and students stay longer. maybe teachers should use satellite parking. or carpool, or get dropped off.

I hear you about the parking crap!! It is rediculous at Morehead. There are so many places that they could put parking spaces and they don't!!! They are also going way overboard with towing people. My roomate has gotten towed 3 times this semester. Thank god I haven't gotten towed yet. I also know that parking is really bad at MTSU, I went there and had to park accross the main road and walk to my dorm. These schools need to get a clue about the parking problem. I don't think they ever will becaue they are making too much money from the tickets and towing.

It's absolutely ridiculous to park at Louisville, unless things have changed in the past two years. When I returned to school (1998-2000) I parked at the football stadium and took a shuttle into campus. Sure, there's thousands of spaces down by the Pizza Bowl, but it grated my last nerve to pay full price for a permit to park that far away. There's no sorority or fraternity parking to speak of either, unless you live on campus and pay more for a dorm parking permit.

AchtungBaby, how hard is it to find a space at Commonwealth and does a stadium permit give you game-day parking privledges? Does UK run a shuttle to campus from the stadium or do you have to walk it? I'd hate to park at Commonwealth and walk in (I've walked from Memorial to Commonwealth and back and didn't like it much either, and I bleed blue!)

Not that my school is that big (22,000) but the rule here is, "If you can see the building you are going to from your car, its considered close parking." That was from the Assistant Vice President. lol. And not a garage to be found. They just choose a "slash and burn" technique and pave over half the woodlands on campus.

The1calledTKE 09-25-2002 12:07 AM

You are a big school compared to mine we just roke 10,000 for the first time ever.lol We definately don't have any type of garages.

lifesaver 09-25-2002 12:15 AM

Well, I guess they actually do, they are just at the Downtown campus. They also have parking under the freeway there, but again, its not applicipable to anyone who is at the main campus. You know.. a lot of good it does....    I also am not gonna pay $200 a year to park in a garage. Batan Death March across campus for me....

jeez, that's a crappy rule. our campus is on a hill, and the tallest building in western Kentucky is at the bottom, so it's extra-suck, here. You could see buildings for miles.

AchtungBaby, just get your truck some floral scent, maybe take truck to see a movie, or a wax. just apologize, i'm sure you're truck will understand that it couldn't be helped. i'm sure a kiss and a weekend muddin' wouldn't hurt, either.

Finding a space at Commonwealth is like trying to find something in my purse--it takes a lo-o-ong time. Unless you happen to get there at some weird hour, like 5 am. Then you shouldn't have a problem. But we have a really large freshman class this year, and they all have to park at the stadium, so it's always full. There IS a shuttle during the daytime, but it doesn't run that regularly and it isn't available at night, so yeah, you either have to wait for the shuttle (and possible be late to class) or you can just start hikin' it. :) I refuse to pay $116 for that, so I park on the street...at least that way, I only have to walk 3 or 4 blocks to my sorority house.

And FHwku, I'll try that--I'm sure my truck will appreciate the special treatment. :D
