Scary Story on the news: UW Sigma Kappa attacked, but she is ok.
I just saw on the news tonight for Seattle, that a Sigma Kappa was attacked in the Sigma Kappa house. She was unharmed and got away, but the police are trying to figure out how the man got into the 2nd story. There are bars on the ground floor windows.
This is very scary, because a ZTA was attacked (a man burst from her closet, punched her in the jaw and broke it) 2 years ago, and then, a Kappa Alpha Theta disappeared from UW Row in 1974 and was never found [she was killed by Ted Bundy]. Please ladies, be safe out there! I have visited the Greek Row, and I can tell you that both the Sigma Kappa and ZTA houses are somewhat removed from the other Greek houses. The SK house is really beautiful and has a wonderful turret. This whole thing has me shaken up! This is the Sigma Kappa house at University of Washington: http://www.washington.edu/alumni/col...sigmakappa.jpg I also wanted to mention that today was Bid Day, so maybe that is what is drawing the creeps out of the woodwork and towards the sorority houses?? Yikes...so creepy! Here is the Greek Row; the Sigma Kappa house is towards the bottom left corner... http://students.washington.edu/panhell/greekmap.html ________________ A few minutes later....... I just found this: http://www.king5.com/topstories/NW_0....4afe25db.html Sorority member at UW attacked 09/22/2002 By Chris Ingalls / KING 5 News SEATTLE - It was a big day Sunday as University of Washington sororities welcomed their newest members. But what was supposed to be a joyous day was dampened by a frightening crime overnight. Police were still at the Sigma Kappa Sunday morning, hours after a sorority member was attacked by a masked man as she slept. The word was spreading to other UW sororities by afternoon. http://www.king5.com/topstories/L_IM...0.4b020e61.jpg Investigators are working to figure out how the man got inside the sorority. "Actually we just found out and we're doing 24-7 door duty - people watching the door to make sure no one weird walks in,” said student Leslie Klugerman. Police say the suspect was wearing a stocking cap. When he awakened the victim, she screamed several times and finally bit him on the arm before he fled. "We heard he was not caught - so we're trying to make sure our doors are locked and everyone's safe all the time and accounted for,” said sorority member Sarah Leipper. Saturday night's assault was similar to one almost exactly two years ago at the Zeta Tau Alpha house. Police arrested a suspect, who they described as an admirer of serial killer Ted Bundy. At the time, that suspect lived in an apartment a half block from the Sigma Kappa house, the scene of Sunday night's attack. The suspect in the two-year-old case never prosecuted because of a lack of evidence. He's a white man, the suspect in Saturday night's attack is African American, and so far police haven't said there's any link between the two cases. "You look out for each other over here. It's no different than living in the dorm or anywhere else. You have to be careful and use common sense - it's a big city,” said student Kim Sambrook. Investigators are working to figure out how the man got inside the sorority. |

OMG:!! ... I feel SO sorry for the Sigma Kappas at UW & SOO thankful that she was able to successfully ward off her attacker!
Our thoughts are with her & her chapter as they cope with this and welcome their new members home. Fraternally, Jen - alumna AGD - DZ '97 UBC |
 Thank heavens she is ok.

We live in sick, violent times.
|
Thank goodness it didn't end up like the Ted Bundy incident.

I'm so glad that the girl wasn't harmed, and that she was able to fend off her attacker. I hope they catch him soon!
I personally wish the story had ended with, "The victim's screams for help brought 55 of her sisters running to her aid. Together, the women were able to beat the attacker within an inch of his life and guard him until the police arrived on scene." ;) |
I am glad the female student was unharmed and appalled that the incident would happen in the first place... there are some crazy people out there
:( It is good to know that the greek community there can stick together and watch out for each other in times like this. |
YIKES!!!! Thats not far from the Alpha Gam house!! I hope the girls were all right and that it didnt affect there rush!!
|
I want to let my sisters at the University of Washington know that they will be in my thoughts. Be safe and here is all of my Sigma love. To all the other Greek and unaffiliated women at U of W, be safe jus because one creep got caught, doesn't mean that you are now safe. You are all in my thoughts.

That poor girl, two weeks ago we were all at home because of rush and on friday we had a group of 6 boys break into our house and were running amuck with their pants down if that wasnt scary enough we had 2 other boys trying to brake into our house the next night, thank godness they picked our house parents room, our house dad ran after them, they got away but I hardly feel safe anymore.

We heard about this over the weekend. We recieved a call from Mu letting us know what happened but that everyone was all right. This was really scary for us to hear and I know a couple of girls that are going to be over on the West side this weekend. They will probably be stopping by the Mu chapter house just to say hi and that they are in Alpha Gamma's thoughts. I know I will if I have enough time while I'm up that direction.
I have heard that a lot of their new members have moved in and they are looking into new and improved safety procedures. I am so glad that the chapter is being so proactive! |
