Well, it looks like they'll have better shoes in prison...
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shoe designer Steven Madden has started serving his 41-month prison term, according to his attorney.
Madden, who pleaded guilty in May 2001 to conspiracy to commit money laundering and securities fraud, surrendered at the federal prison camp at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida on Wednesday, attorney Joel Winograd said. "He's doing just fine," said Winograd. "He just wants to get this chapter behind him and become a useful citizen again." Madden, founder of trendy shoe retailer Steven Madden Ltd., was originally scheduled to begin serving his sentence in August, but the beginning of the term was delayed. Winograd said he expects Madden to serve about a year and a half, after consideration for good behavior and participation in an alcohol rehabilitation program. ____ I had no idea he was going to the pokey. Maybe he can do something about those orange flip flops... |
Serves him right for making such cute shoes that are irresistable even though they are overpriced and fall apart after a few months! :p

I don't think I'd buy anything from him now.
Hootie |
Hootie, you wouldn't buy from him now because he went to jail? I think that is what you meant, but I wasn't sure.
His shoes totally fall apart! I have never had problems with boots from there but I have had three pairs of sandals break. And, while they are cute, they've kind of lost their appeal for me now that I see them on every other girl's feet! |
I have never owned a pair of Steve Madden shoes b/c the shoes look poorly made. From what you all say, my belief is correct; they fall apart shortly after purchase. I'll stick with Nine West and Kenneth Cole. I've had nothing but good experiences with those brands.
ps - Valkyrie, loved the subject line :D |
I had a buddy's dad sentenced there in HS. He embezzeled $$ from the bank he was president of. Its not prison. I can assure you of that. Its on an Air Force Base. There wasnt even a fence. It was a hedge. Seriously. Put him in there with vatos locos all Blood In Blood Out /American Me style. He'd never even get another parking ticket.
Seriously, ITS JAIL AT THE AIR FORCE (service branch known for its nice ammenities - seriously). Their only rule there was that you had to ask permission from the base commander before you left. I shit you not. His biggest comaplaint about "prison"; the BX (base exchange for you non millitary kids - like a walmart) selection was rather limited. He had to shop on-line. He didnt like having to pay the shipping costs. He felt it "unjust." His words, not mine. |

Cute or not (shoes), he shouldn't be allowed to produce something that's crappy quality Hootie |
