Jauary Rush
 

Formal rush at my school being in January and since we are Pennsylvania it will likely being getting cold. What suggestions do you have as far as attire for the different night? HELP!!!

Our formal rush is in January too. Still dress in the attire suggested by Panhel, but make sure to have a nice warm coat. When you go into the houses the sisters will take it from you and hang it up. Luckily when I went through rush it wasn't too cold, but I always had a pair of gloves on me. I'm not sure if you want to wear a hat or not since it could mess up your hair, but maybe earmuffs until you go inside? Just an idea.

How about for first round:
Cute sweater, skirt and tights.

If it is a snowy night, wear boots and throw your shoes in a plastic bag.

When you get to the house, put on the shoes during the Rush party and when it is time to leave, just put the boots back on again... (NOTE: Make sure these are boots you can get off quite easily...you don't want to be hopping around in the mudroom, while everyone else is getting on with conversations...boots that zip up the inside of your calf are GREAT!)

I *LOVE* the earmuffs idea...will keep your ears warm, and your hair will not be mussed as much as wearing a hat!

Buy those hand warming packets. You can get them at ski shops and stuff.

ALso just remember it is cold outside but you get warm walking from house to house quickly. Don't try to change shoes on open house day, thats too much bother if you have to go to like 13 houses.

Don't start stressing now you have a long time!!

We have Formal Rush in FEBRUARY in Pa and I agree it can really stink. The shoe in a bag idea is a good one. for certain rituals we carry our white shoes in a bag and usualy and up wearing layers up to the house anyways. It definetly would work for rush too. Our house is small and always hot during rush so even in the winter I think it's good to wear light weight long sleeved tops. Being all sweaty is definetly not cool. Short sleeved sweaters sound like an oxymoron but could work for rush I think. Earmuffs sound good too. I'm a scarf prsn myself and a good bright one is helpful in finding your coat, plus it's a small detail that adds some character. I can just imagine a sister saying, "oh I remeber Sally, she had that great plaid scarf"

I will be rushing during my school's formal rush in January and I CAN'T WAIT! I am sooo jealous of everyone who is rushing right now...

I was a rho chi at Elon College in North Carolina during one of their worst winters. we had tons of snow and ice on the ground, but still had rush. my advice to you is if it is really cold and snowy (and i live in PA now,so i know how bad it can be!) wear black pants with tights on underneath or something and a cute shirt. sweaters and skirts always look cute too. and anything that you can get away with wearing black boots is a good idea. plus, a warm coat, gloves, (skip the hat if you can) and pocket warmers are nice. and just think, you will have a nice rosy glow for the party!

I go to school in Rhode Island, and our Rush is in late January/early February. When I was both a rusher and a rushee, we had really bad snowstorms (well, bad by a native Floridian's standards) during Rush. It's not impossible to look good during the winter. Our Panhellenic didn't state any rules about how to dress, and the sisters will understand that you're wearing gloves. I especially remember wearing black pants and cute ski sweaters, and I did end up wearing a sleeveless dress for Pref, but it should all work out.
