Barbershop Drama

For those of you have seen the movie Barbershop do you think it deserves talk of boycotting?

I heard on the radio that Mrs. Jesse Jackson no longer sees Cedric the Entertainer in the same light.

ZetaAce 09-19-2002 02:53 PM

Gimme a break!

It was a good movie and funny - and here's a question for the masses. Why are we always boycotting or worrying stupid crap and not focusing on the things that really matter?!?

Why don't some of our 'leaders' start worrying about healthcare, education, and economic prosperity for the black community? Those are just three things! I've got a whole list of things that are more important to me than whether a movie poked a little bit of fun at said 'leaders'. Why don't we boycott Jesse Jackson instead?

*lol* This is too funny.

I agree! Wholeheartedly! Please boycott something of larger sustanance, instead of this movie.

Geez. Some folks just have their proverbial panties in a bunch. I mean, the movie was a COMEDY. I have heard FAR worse things said about famous people, and/or people who were pivotal in any movement. Get over it!

ZetaAce -- Word!

As an aside, Honeykiss, love the sig! :)

She needs to boycott her cheating husband!!

ZetaAce, agree with you. How about that scene of the movie ONLY said what other folks say everyday and have been saying for years. BOO HISS!!

Okay, I haven't seen the film (I'm not sure if it's playing here). Without giving away too much of the plot, why are people thinking of boycotting it, and what was it about Cedric the Entertainer's performance that got this woman's knickers in a twist?

PLEEEAASSSEEE

Enjoyed the movie. Jesse, Meeks, and the rest need to get a life.....

kiml122 09-20-2002 09:06 AM

I've said this several time I thought the movie was funny. Everyone is not going to like all things, and people need to remember that we were basically eaves dropping on a conversation that was taking place in a barbershop.

Was I tripping off of what Ced stated in the movie...why you ask because it was a movie, it was entertainment.

For those that saw the movie...remember OJ DID IT!! I loved the way Ced said that, hell his voice was cracking me up period in the movie.

Oh the statement that Mrs Jesse Jackson is looking at Ced different is really funny, considering whom she is married to.:)

Let the people in the Church say Amen, Amen, Amen!!! You are sooo on point with this one!

I like the idea of boycotting Jesse Jackson. I heard that they want that part of the movie edited out of the VHS/DVDs. Come on
"Give me a break."

When I used to sport a natural I heard the same type of conversations in the barbershop. We are not a monolithic group people.

Strive 09-24-2002 11:27 PM

Does any one know the real motive behind why Jesse Jackson wants to boycott Barbershop?

It must be something else going on beside the character comment, Cedric the Entertainer made. Does the movie degrade African-Americans?

No the movie just shows the side of Black folks that think differently than this: MLK is a hero not a hoe, Rosa was THE First/Brainchild/All hail Rosa, YAAAAAAY Jesse even though you have a baby mama and really don't do much than rhyme when you talk.

Essentially the movie showed that not all Black folks love and admire MLK, Rosa, and JEsse. Ced's character only spoke what at least 2 other Black folks have thought in the past 50 years or so. So what there was a WHITE director?!!?!

No one raised cane over all the Master P movies. No one wanted to edit out the parts that glorify drug use and misogyny. Like others will say, this is a movie that reflects what goes on in our world or at least part of it. No 2 Black folks shared the same experiences. No 2 Black folk feel the exact same way about JEsse, Martin, or Rosa. The movie shows that the barbershop is a place where folks can go and express themselves and be heard even if they are heard no where else in our world.

I still say Jesse JAckson's wife has taken that whole stand by your man isht a little too far. IMO I don't know how supporting I could be about him.

I need for JEsse to inprove education, improve TEACHER's salaries, improve housing conditions, get all of these schools out of mobile classrooms. . . then maybe I won't LMAO @ the F*CK Jessee scene, til then **giggle giggle** **chuckle* *snicker** *belly laugh**

Oh and if they do have en edited version on DVD, I really will boycott some body. BOOOOO HISS!!

Ok...What is going on???

My Man and I saw this movie the first day it came out. We both thought it was funny.

The comments though....hmmmm. ...I was like oh no they didn't ....they didn't have to say that....but I didn't take it seriously. I was just like ... now you know they wrong...but if you think about it :p maybe Rosa was tired! :D

I mean really....THIS IS A COMEDY PEOPLE!!!

My man is an Alpha and his response to MLK was hey....not everybody liked him AND we know what he has done for us.

Just like some of the other comments that were made here, there are MUCH MORE important things to boycott than a movie which basically shows what goes on in the Barbershop.

They REALLY don't want to know about the type of conversations that take place in a what....Ladies....BEAUTY SHOP!!! Hello!!!....Can I get a Yamen! ;)

ZetaAce 09-25-2002 11:13 AM

Boycott Jesse!

Jesse is wasting our time - He's made an issue of this for 2 reasons:

A) He's personally offended
B) He hasn't been on the news in a while.

Ok 3 reasons...

C) He's an idiot

He continually wastes our time! Seriously, what has his Rainbow/Push Coalition really done for us as a people, besides fill our heads with rhetoric?

Jesse and now Sharpton just missed their every three month protest limit. IF Barbershop wasn't as successful as it has been and will be (thanks to their comments), they wouldn't be saying anything. I mean you'd think they'd praise the movie for being successful.
BOO on Jesse
BOO on Sharpton...
