What kind of a sorority would a non-girly girl fir into?
I will probably be attending FSU next fall (2002) or possibly Penn State. I want to join a sorority a lot b/c of the relationships and memories i think will come of it. But i am not the typical girly-girl, wearing all Tiffanys jewelry and only the most fashionable pants from Calvin Klein (or whatever...). I was just wondering if there is a soroity for girls who just dress nicely (not fabulously) and like to have fun... This may be a stupid question, but i was just wondering if most sororities are accepting mostly of "perfect" girls. Thanks for any advice....

Tara--There are "stereotypical" sorority girls but I can tell you firsthand that the sororities on FSU's campus are very diverse. No matter what your personality there is definitely a house for you http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Omg this post makes me laugh. If I had a penny for every one of my sisters who didn't think they were the sorority type. I'm one of the most girly-girls except for a few, but most of my sisters are athletes. They don't wear Tiffany jewerly. They are laid back and laugh at the girls who get ready to take out trash or put on makeup for a class at 8 am. So believe me there are sororites out there for you! Best of luck!!!!

Trust me when I say that I am VERY ungirly. I have multiple piercings and tattoos. Now, I'm not a fashion plate. I am a Kappa Delta, and my sisters love me for who I am, as I love them. I'm not saying you should join KD; I'm merely stating that when you go through recruitment, you should choose the sorority that you KNOW you belong in. It's a feeling. Your sisters should never judge you on appearances, and they won't. (Besides, I go to an university that has a 4 to 1 guy/girl ratio. I go to an engineering school in MISSOURI, and we sorority girls don't wear designer labels when we have to go to a 7:30am Calculus 3 class.) Don't be confused by the stereotypes, and BE YOURSELF. I can't stress that enough! I hope that this has helped with any confusion!

I never saw myself as a sorority girl either, and then I went through recruitment and realized that all girls do not fit that stereotype. No one can tell you which sorority to join. Each sorority is different and then each chapter at each school is also different. PSU has a great greek system. I'd be happy to help out any way I can with other questions!

There is no such thing as a 'typical' sorority member. Follow your heart!

I think you should go through the formal rush process. This way you'll get to meet women from each sorority. It's surprising how easy it will be for you to tell which sororities are more laid-back and which ones are all about fashion and makeup and cliques within the house. Some of the houses that you visit will obviously be the "stereotypical sorority girls" and you'll know to mark those off your list after you've at least given them a chance to impress you. Other houses will be more your speed. Going through rush is one of the best ways to sort this out.

Wow! I had no idea. Seriously. all of the info you girls gave has majorly helped me. But i have another question that has sprung up... In "formal rush" do you get to visit all of the houses or just a few that you have picked out before you go? Thanx for everything everyone...

Tara,
During Formal Rush, you will attend every 1st round party at every house. After the first round, cuts begin so you may not visit every house after that. But at least you get a chance to see all of them at least once! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Good luck! Carrie Delta Zeta alumna |
All I have to say is if I could afford Tiffany's jewlery... I wouldnt know where to even buy it!!!
