Slap Clap song
Our CC taught us the slap clap song that the Boulder Chapter did when our first class was initiated. Do you each have your own spin on the song or is it pretty much the same throughout the nation and in Canada?

Clap Song
We did that song when I was a collegiate (25+ years ago)! I have not thought of it in years and didn't know if it was common for AOII's or not.

I don't think I remember this. Will someone please refresh my memory???

Clap Song
You stand in a circle and sing:
"We are the AOII sisters from _______(your chapter) This is the reason why, It's where our dreams come true, and many friendships too, So let us take this time to present ourselves..." Then you continue this cross over clapping (I can't really describe it other than a group clapping excercise much like you might have done one on one as a little girl) and you say your names in turn... the last of the song, after everyone has said their names is "A O II, HI" It is very catchy and peppy and was always a rush (recruitment) favorite to introduce ourselves to rushees. We would have them standing in the middle of our circle. You have to be a little bit coordinated to do it so we always had fun trying to compensate for the less agile in our group! |
Thanks, now it seems familiar. I don't think we ever used it for rush, but then with the number of girls we had it would have taken the whole party for that :D
|
It doesn't take that long to do, but I guess the circle would have to be awfully big if you had a lot of members. I went to a small college so our chapters were not very large.
|
We have 47 girls total right now, our cc said it took her chapter 3 months to learn it *haha*. I thought it was fun, just coming into the chapter last fall that was the first time all but the first initiated class saw. *l* A few of us were injured after clapping for awhile!

We taught our chapter this last spring and we just practiced it again today. (I'm an adviser)
You stand in a circle with your right hand facing down and your left hand facing up. And you slap the person's hand's beside you and then clap your hands. Slap - clap, slap - clap - FLIP (and you flip your hands so you slap the other way. And you keep going. It's pretty fun! But uncoordinated people are having issues. |
It's great fun once you learn it, but a bear until you do :-)
We had a variation on the above lyrics at my chapter, it went something like this: We are the AOII sisters of _____________ chapter and here are the reasons why it's where our dreams can come true and many friendships so true so let us take this time to present ourselves...(everyone says their first name, then do the big ending!) A...O...II! Roses, Christin |
Hurrah, there's nothing like the power of the clap song :D
Roses, Christin |
I was hoping we'd use ours for Formal Recruitment this fall, but our Rec. Chair was a new member then, I don't think she knows it exists. Hmm. I think it would be cool to use it, have them stare at us in awe. :)

I remember this! We haven't done it in a while, but we do it on Bid Day to introduce ourselves to our new girls. It's great fun and usually someone messes up the clapping, but I love it!

Nu Beta Songs
I'm sure some other chapters use these songs during rush. We use these songs when I was a Nu Beta from 1996-2000.
Door Song: Welcome, Rushee, welcome rushee! From the friendly girls of AOII! We're glad to meet you, we're glad to greet you Some come on in we'll show you why! We're really neat, we can't be beat, because we're AOII, Some come on in and make a friend at AOII. Welcome, Rushee, welcome rushee! From the A-O-A-O-IIs! Door song as they leave first round and snap while you sing: Remem, Remem-member, AOII Sisters, forever, laughing, singing, doing whatever we have fun, when we're together, Remem, Remem-member, AOII, Repeat and then scream, Goodbye! Second Round door song changes each year with the theme of ths skit. Third Round Rush song is AOII song to the tune of Eldelweiss(sorry for spelling). And we only sing this at the end of pref when we go outside and light our candles and sing. |
