I was wondering what the difference was because i was reading a thread about "which miss america contestants are greek' .. I am pretty sure Miss Nebraska 2002 is a Deltasig.. and Stacy Skidmore (miss nebraska 2002) is listed on the Miss USA pagent to compete... but on the Miss America website another Miss Nebraska is listed :confused: So do they have seperate Miss State's to compete in the different pagents?

Okay, maybe CP2000 has more insight on this, but here's my understanding of the two.

The Miss America Organization began in Atlantic City as a means to promote tourism after Labor Day eighty some years ago.

The Miss Universe Organization was created by Catalina Swimwear about fifty years ago. The Miss Universe Organization also oversees the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant competitions and venues usually change from year to year.

State winners in the Miss America local pageants are called "Miss [State]".

State winners in the Miss Universe local pageants are called "Miss [State] USA". Teen winners are "Miss [State] Teen USA".

...So yes, there are two separate state pageants held.

The Miss America Pageant also conducts a talent portion for their contestants, while the Miss Universe Organization does not.

Also, the Miss Universe Organization is owned by the none other than Donald Trump. ;)

I've got nothing further to add, except that the Miss America Organization does not like to refer to themselves as a pageant, they like to refer to themselves as a "scholarship organization".

And...to be fair, the Miss America Organization is the #1 source of scholarship money for young women.

Miss America: talent, but still have to look good.

It's all misogynistic, sexist, degrading, outdated crap anyway. Just apply for a damm scholarship, if that's what it's really all about! And why aren't men subjecting themselves to this? Stop entering, we won't have to complain about being seen as a body. If it was REALY about talent, anyone should be able to enter and win if she were smart enough and artistic enough. But the fact that you STILL throw bathing suit and evening gown competitions in there, sorry, it negates the whole arguement....And, no, I don't think this way because I don't think I'd win, blah blah blah, it's because I think we are worth more than our beauty.

Men and women enjoy spectacles! Shows! Las Vegas! Broadway! At my school, we had fashion shows that served no other purpose but for the models to look cute/sexy and for the audience to say "Work it, Miss Thing!" or "Work it, Mr. Thing!"

If people want to translate that to something they have to work harder for (such as sponsorships) and ultimately be rewarded through scholarships, then yay for them.

We all know that there are different ways to earn scholarship money.

And yes, there are pageants for men/boys. Not national ones, but where I am from, they are called Beautillions.

I bet miss USA will win Miss universece, sence she has the home planet advantage.

Ha ha. Really, naming it "Miss Universe" is silly since they're not exactly competing against the whole universe. Miss Planet, maybe.
