If you go to www.vapa.bc.ca
you can see information about the Vancouver Panhellenic Society and about each sorority at UBC. |
You can also find out information on all the groups at UBC here: http://www.alphadeltaphi.bc.ca/greeklinks.htm
Don't forget to check the national websites for all 7 groups: www.alphagammadelta.org www.alphadeltapi.org www.alphaphi.org www.deltagamma.org www.deltaphiepsilon.org www.gammaphibeta.org www.kappakappagamma.org Also check out the Canadian Greeks website: www.canadiangreeks.com and you can look at the UBC campus (click on "campuses") and the National Panhellenic Conference website: http://www.npcwomen.org/ I hope that Rush works out for you! |

Since it is summer time, one thing what you could do is to try to meet some of the existing members now. To do this, contact the headoffices in the USA (look up on their websites) and tell them that you are interested in Rushing in September at UBC, but you don't know any sorority members personally, and could they tell you if any Summer Rush parties are going on in Vancouver this summer? (I went to some during the summer before I rushed.). The head offices would then contact the Vancouver chapter and inform them about you and this could help you to meet some members before Rush, rather than Rushing and making a "snap decision". Also, ask you mother, sisters, female friends, anyone, if they were in a sorority and if so, could they provide a written recommendation for you (or if the sorority member in question does not know you personally, they could at least write a "letter of introduction"). What is Rush like? Be yourself, be sincere, smile, talk about what is interesting to you, and above all, be a lady (no talking about how much you like to drink and party). I hope that this is of help to you and good luck. |

However, I think if someone you knew was a sorority alum, but that group didn't have a chapter at UBC, they could write a general letter to the Panhellenic Council attesting that you would be a positive addition to membership at one of the chapters there on campus. I don't believe that general letters such as this would have a lot of impact, but who knows, I feel that every little bit helps. Believe it or not, after all of the information that I have shared with you, I actually did not pledge a sorority. But that is a story for another day! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif What high school are you graduating from, if you don't mind me asking? |

I checked out your website! I had my Myers Briggs test done and I think I remember that am an ESFJ, I too, love Smartfood popcorn and candy (YUM!), and I live with my Mom too. Happy Rushing! |
Canadian,
Which sorority do you belong too? |
Aries,
Summer parties don't really exist anymore, however there are plenty of opportunities come september to find out more about the panhel system. First day back is first year orientation - Imagine UBC: this will offer you some info about sororities. Also for the first week or so before rush there will be rush booths outside the Student Union Building. The booths are run by different members of Panhel and they are more than eager to answer any questions; you can pick up a brochure describing the basics about Rush etc, and it also includes a calender of all the Rush Events. One really good thing you should attend is the Panhel Rush Picnic on Monday September 11th: it will give you an opportunity to meet all the Panhel members before the craziness of Rush starts. This will give a general overview of life in the sororities. Siobhan |
