emailing alumni for recs
 

At my school, it's really hard to receive the status as a Greek member. Because of this, I need recs to at least have a chance. The problem however is that I do not have a relationship with any alumni who were greeks. However, I do have their email addresses. Should I try emailing the alumni by introducing myself, giving them my resume, and then if possible, asking them for a rec? Or is this a no-no?

It can work! I'm rushing as a freshman, and it turned out that I knew absolutely no alumni from two of my school's sororities. So I went to their national websites and found addresses for the local alum chapters, emailed the women and explained my situation, and both of them offered to write me recommendations. Good luck! Where are you going to school?

I believe that is ok. Just don't email active members in any house!
