this may be a dumb question but....

What does "aggie" mean exactly? I see it on many greek web pages, and it's also mentioned a few times in the posts here. I'm assuming it has something to do with a certain school or location, but I'm so confused! hehe, I have a feeling the answer is obvious, so I apologize for my ignorance if it's an easy answer :D

I think I know the anwser but if anyone has any corrections please feel free to correct me.

Well Aggie is usually refered as someone that goes to an agricultural school. I go to NMSU which used to be New Mexico a&m which stands for agriculture and machinery. There are a lot of a&m schools. The most popular being Texas A&m and they are most commonly referred to as aggies.

I hope that answered your guestion.

you are mostly correct suzipiphi

UC davis is also a school where the term aggie is used. Texas A&M-Texas Agriculture and Mechanical College. If you say you are an aggie in Texas-everyone presumes you go or went to Texas A&M-home of the Fighten Texas Aggies-whoop!!!!

Most State Schools were started as State Normal, Teachers or Agricultural schools with money coming from the different States for some form of higher Education for those that could not afford an upper education!

Most of these were dropped in transistion as Women were added to the ranks of students. Yes it goes back that far!

For example my College, Pittsburg Normal College, became Pittsburg State Teachers College, which is now Pittsburg State U.

My self, I would have rather been know as SE Kansas U. But what the hell is a Gorilla doing as a mascot in SE Ks!

PSU, get any ideas of what that might sound like!;)

Not only colleges, but we also have one AGGER fraternity (national fraternity): Alpha Gamma Rho, as a professional agriculture fraternity.

My school was also a normal institute. It was actually just called Normal Institute or something like that. Then it became Ball State Teachers College and then it became the University!

The term "Aggie" is also used here at the university of Guelph. It's a huge agricultural school. Before it became the university if Guelph it was the Ontario Agriculture College.
