What do you listen to in the mornings on the way to school/work?
What gets you people going in the morning on the way to school/work, besides coffee?
Today it was Chris Domingo's new tracks he just put out on vinyol that I recorded onto a cd from a late night mix i made after coming back from downtown one night.... The name of the two mixes are: Cut it up ( fast break beat version) & Surburban Sunrise ( break beat trancey feel)...... Yesterday it was a song one from one of the guys on my label.... the name of it is..... MelonHaus-2 the remix ( fast, hard trance) |
In the car on the way to school, I listen to the Bob & Tom show. It's blissfully irreverant and I find it hilarious.
I always have to have music on in the morning. Usually it's whatever happens to be in my stereo, but if it was too mellow or depressing, I switch it for more upbeat stuff. Especially good is Ani DiFranco, Dave Matthews Band, and most classic rock. |

Wow! Thats the opposite of what I hear. Dave Matthews---BLECK! I can't stand him.....I swear I think only people who smoke bud love him. *Do not reply to that last sentence, regardless of whether or not you do.* UF |
What's the opposite of what you hear? Bob & Tom? I may be a feminist, but self-righteous I am not. Bob & Tom is fourth-grade humour at its best. It leaves me giggling for the rest of the day.
I like the more upbeat DMB for morning music because it has horns, sax, and a beat. It makes me want to dance. If I had any recordings of it right now, my first choice for morning music would be a really awesome local band called Know Boundaries. KB has great beat and creative instrumentation. It's the closest thing to hip-hop I'll listen to. Mostly I'm jazz, classical, chick folk music, and classic rock. Being a music major, I am somewhat of a priss about what I listen to. |

Don't get me wrong, I love those fellas from classic days as well. I took a music appreciation course that opened me up to a realm of music i never cared to know about. Muddy Waters was the man. Billy Holiday, man had talent. Jerry lee lewis, Little Richard----I still love those guys. The beatles-----words cannot express my thankfulness to them. The Who, Hendrix, Sting, MaMa's and the Papa, All the Doo Whop groups......I like all of them. That class made me realize something, all Elvis really did was make acceptable to the public what Black artists had been doing for generations. Surburban america didn't like the fact that their children were listenting to colored artists. Elvis was the go between guy who brought what they had been doing for generations and sold it to the middle class protestant white families. He was very talented no doubt and his looks, in my opinion, helped him tremendously. If you want to take a look at an artist who has NO looks yet has all the talent.....look at Steven Tyler.....he might one of the ugliest people on the planet along with Mick Jagger but their talent alone made them what they became. As for hip/hop......I don't care for it a bit unless I've had some kind of Liquor. Dave Matthews kinda of stuff makes me want to puke though. It just makes feel like I'm in some bar, drinking cheap beer and chillin with a bunch of smokers. I'm an energetic type of person......Maybe thats why I listen to 4 on the floor type of stuff. Classical stuff is also one of my favorites as well. Most people think guys who listen to that stuff are fags but I've been playing the piano for 14 years and still love it. I'm also the furthest thing away from being gay. I didn't know you were a music major as well. That was my first declared major upon entering college. I later dropped it to have History and International buissness degrees. A music degree wouldn't gotten me anywhere in the world. |
I used to listen to Howard Stern on my way to work but now I just grab miscellaneous CDs out of my collection and listen to them. 45 minutes is a long drive to work and I hate flipping the station to avoid commercials...

I listen to something mellow and thoughtful. I have to be up early every morning and I cannot stand to have hard edgy music blastin in my ear.
This morning I have Amel Larrieux. |
Jazz
KKJZ-FM in Long Beach, Calif. And I have a Bose CD player in my cah. ;)
www.kkjz.org One of the two best jazz radio stations in the country. If I were in the east, I would listen to WBGO-FM, www.wbgo.org. |
I usually flip between the two Chicago hip hop stations, Power 92 and WGCI. If nothing good is going on there, I'll listen to Eddie and Jobo on B96. If really nothing good is going on, I'll check out a hits & dusties station, the news, or put in a CD. On the way home, I always hit up Power 92 because they have a guy mixing and it's always awesome, especially on Fridays when they break out some old school house stuff.

In the mornings, I listen to, in the following order:
1. KNBR "the Sports Leader", the "John London" not just sports show--this is my main morning gig when I'm getting dressed and on the bus ride, but sometimes the bus craps out the sound reception, so.... 2. NPR (KQED) 3. KBLX or KISS-FM (If I want to hear music instead of talk) 4. KCSM (Jazz, if I don't want to hear words) 5. KDFC (classical if I'm reading a book on the bus) |
Depends on my mood. Sometimes I wake up to trance, hip hop or the new NFG album.

When I used to have to drive to school I usually would get stuck on something to listen to, and listen to the same thing for about a month. Since the drive was only about 3-5 min, I'd only get in about one song. I listened to Bob Dylan's "Hurricane" for a while, Dave Matthews "Big Eyed Fish" for a few weeks and Natalie Merchant "Gun Shy" and just put one on repeat...

Either I listen to the Russ Parr and Olivia Foxx show or a CD. :D |
I listen to the Bro Jake show on Rock 101 (Vancouver's classic and new rock station). Currently they have their Guy Garage competition going on right now. If your are the 101 caller when the artist of the day comes on (I believe it was Eric Clapton today) you get a key which may start the 62 Corvette they're giving away - both my boyfriend and I are trying to get a key. The morning show is super funny, and I also listen to Dean and Hatch on the way home from school. If you love Floyd, Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Who, the Doors - well you get the picture - you would love this station ;).
Rock 101 |
I'm a dedicated Howard Stern fan. Did anyone hear his 9/11 show?
