RFM and Ranking Chapters
RFM came around long after I was an active member, and I was asked a question today that I didn't know how to answer. I'd appreciate any help you can provide!
When a PNM does chapter selection/ranking at the end of a round do they have to place the groups in a rank order or can they give more than one group the same rank? For example, PNM visits 10 chapters for open house. She has a great experience at 6 of them, a really good experience at 3 of them, and has to talk to her high school bully at one of them. Can she place a 1 by 6 chapters, a 2 by 3 chapters, and a 10 by the last one or does she have to place them in order from 1 to 10 ? Thanks very much! |
I'm sure someone with better knowledge of this will also chime in.
Let's say a pnm has 9 chapters to choose from. On day 2, she can only visit 6 chapters. So, she would rank her top 6 all with a number one The remaining chapters could be all ranked with a number 2 or could be ranked 2, 3, 4. |

This is how it's done at the chapters I work with (ranking them 2, 3, 4). |

SO, then what happens to those top houses all ranked as #1?
If you get back your list and you have a full list with none of your #2-4, does that mean everyone ranked you "high"? |

eta: the houses she ranked #2 through whatever could have invited her back as well, or they could not have. No one except the Panhellenic recruitment team and those chapters' recruitment teams would know. |
They liked her as much as she liked them and she was very aware of where her opportunities were.

This is why a lot of PNM's are confused when they see houses they didn't rank #1 still on their schedules....PNM's aren't "cutting" houses and they can only decline invitations IF every single #1 invites them to the next round. |
Thank you! Very clear explanations and made it easy to explain to some non-greek parents who have daughters going through recruitment this year.

I hope we are still using RFM twenty years from now ... it will make for a lot fewer questions over time if folks come to understand how it works.
