US Security Alert

Attorney General John Ashcroft just announced that the U.S. Office of Homeland Security will elevate the terrorism threat level for the United States from "elevated" to "high."

God Bless America!

Especially with 9-11 being tomorrow...I pray that nothing happens and that no one tries anything. I couldn't even believe that it had already been a year since 9-11-01...it seems like not that long ago and here we are an entire year later. I hope all goes well so that our country can grieve, the lives of those lost, in peace.:(

I will be suprized if nothing happens. At the very least there will be some copy cat idiot tring to make a name for himself. I doubt anything like the Twin Towers will happen again.

MoxieGrrl 09-10-2002 02:31 PM

Just as a precaution....since a lot of you are away from home, try to find out where your family will be tomorrow, so that you can easily get in touch with them.

(Brought to you by some UPMC seminar I went to on what to do if something does happen tomorrow)

It's a good idea.

The government is becoming the "little boy that cried, wolf!"

They are in real danger of not being taken seriously if they come across harder facts.

KappaKittyCat 09-10-2002 03:10 PM

Agreed, James.

An Israeli friend of mine put it this way: "I hear on the news in the morning that the PLO bombed a discoteque in Tel Aviv. What do I do that night? I drive into Tel Aviv and meet my friends at a discoteque. If I die, I die. When you stop living, you've let the terrorists win."

I agree with the "cry wolf" theory, but for tomorrow I'll stand with zntke. It's just so attractive for nut cases as well as terrorists!

sororitygirl2 09-10-2002 03:42 PM

Not that we can analyze how terrorists minds work, because they are certainly different than ours, but I would not expect anything big to happen tomorrow just because they know we will be on the lookout.

Nevertheless, I will definitely be worrying and thinking about it all day.

I've been very nervous since 9/11 as there is a nuclear power station very close to Omaha...that and Stratcom is here (that's where Bush hid out later on in the afternoon on 9/11). It'd be very hard for someone to bomb Stratcom, but the nuclear power station I'm not so sure of.

Hootie:(

I think perhaps the U.S. Security Alert is just a precaution. It would be foolish to think nothing will happen because the U.S. never dreamed anything like 9-11 would ever actually come to be, and it did unfortunately :( so the gov't probably thinks it would be best to prepare or at least have some sort of precaution in case something does happen.

It's so weird that it's already been a year. It feels like it only happened a week ago, but I guess that goes to show how precious time really is, because you don't know when it will be gone.

Tom Earp 09-10-2002 05:57 PM

John Ashcan is an idiot!

He is a Barbershop quartet member who is a suppose Christian who is building a Feif Dom in Washington!

He was a so- so governor of Missouri!

All I am seeing do is him taking away yours and mine civil liberties!

Better stop and think!

Bush professing bomb Iraq! Hell if we do not have the backing of the rest of the world, just guess what kind of Shit we will be in!

We get our oil from the middle east while the Alaskan Oil goes to the Far East!

I am far from being a radical, but I own a Tobacco Business and look what they are doing to me along with the rest of us acroos this country!

AGREED. Not only am I living my life as I would, I dont even think about it. I mourned those who died, and moved on. Its easier for me because fortunately I didnt even know anyone who knew anyone who died int he attacks. I also understand that finally, the us has joined the rest of the world, where this shit happens on a daily basis. The stuff people in the holy land deal with on a daily basis (to me) is akin to what we've had to deal with what, once? (Visit any city in Israel, and their lives are dramitically different than ours.) If we dontt want our world to end up like theirs than wed better begin to re-examine our foregn policy and plan on giving up our gas-guzzling SUV's. We live in a global community folx.

It has not even entered my mind to change whatever routine I had planned...

Frankly, I think that these "warnings" are propoganda to fuel Bush's "War Machine." I think the fact that they are "precautionary" is just a small bonus they're tooting. I agree with James regarding that there may be copycat acts although nowhere near the scale of 9-11.

XOXO,
Annie.

Exactly right.

I suppose something could happen tomorrow (Actually today for some of you now), but why would anyone try anything on the day when security will be at the very highest level -- probably in our history.

That's like deciding to rob a bank knowing that the SWAT Team is inside.

Peaches-n-Cream 09-11-2002 01:49 AM

This weekend the police presence in New York City specifically Queens was overwhelming. I think it is because of Sept. 11th, the U.S. Open, and the two airports. My sister said that it looked like we are on high alert. I hope that nothing will happen, but I figure that it is better to be safe than sorry.

I continue to mourn the loss of my neighbor who was a firefighter and several others in my neighborhood. I will attend a candlelight memorial ceremony for them.
