Whats wrong with kids these days

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy was in police custody Saturday, accused of bludgeoning another student with a hammer during a dispute over a video-game controller, authorities said.

The attack occurred Thursday at Warrensville Heights High School.

The victim, also 16, suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Hillcrest Hospital. The hospital on Saturday would not release the condition of the boy, who is in 9th grade.

His accused attacker, an 11th-grader, could be charged with felony assault, police Detective Dennis Fossett said. He was being held in a juvenile detention center.

Fossett said the 11th-grader told him Wednesday the 9th-grader threatened to "beat him until he stopped breathing" if he did not bring in money to replace a lost video-game controller that had belonged to the 9th-grader.

On Thursday, the 11th-grader took a hammer, walked up behind the 9th-grader and hit him twice on the right side of the head, Fossett said.

Witnesses told police that the 9th-grader fell, and his attacker swung the hammer twice more and kicked at his head. A security guard then restrained the 11th-grader.

School superintendent Gwendolyn Cooke said she would recommend the 11th-grader's immediate expulsion.

zntke, I'll tell you exactly what's wrong with them!

1. Parents who couldn't care less where their kids go or what they're doing--and lately, the upper middle class is very guilty of this. So what if their kid is downloading porno on the computer of the ten-year-old next door?

2. Parents who deny their kid ever does anything wrong, even in the face of proof. I caught a student cheating on videocamera once and her father denied that she was cheating, even though she took her textbook out and started copying answers onto her midterm. He said maybe she didn't understand that it wasn't an open book test.

I am about to go confront the neighbors across the street, whose unsupervised kids shot a BB hole in my car window last night. My husband and kids saw them shooting fireworks (illegal here) and a BB gun right before it happened. I bet you money that they'll deny it and I'll have to get the police involved.

We as Americans for some reason avoid conflict at any cost.

There are certainly some GC'ers that this statement doesn't apply to... But I think that's something generally accepted as fact.

It's funny what people will do to avoid conflict... Lie, deny, blame...

Just imagine what most of us would do if we were enjoying lunch and someone lit up right next to us in the nonsmoking section of a restaurant? Would we tell them to stop? We'd like to think we would -- but most would just suffer.

is that the victim was a 16 years old, and still a freshman in high school, while his attacker was a junior. did they grow up together?

*my bad, i wasn't aware that it was normal other places. most people here start high school before they can drive.
