University of Illinois
Is anyone rushing at U of I this fall, sororities or fraternities? We happen to have the largest system in the country; I am surprised no one has asked about it yet.

We have one of the most active greek communities in the country. 65% of leadership positions are held by greeks. And we make up more than 15% of the campus. not to bad. good luck with recruitment.

Even though our system is huge, I definitely recommend going greek to anyone attending Illinois. It's very diverse where you can find your niche. I wouldn't trade the opportunities and experiences I had for anything! AXOprincess, isn't our campus now at 20-25% greek? I know it's been going up, but I couldn't remember the new numbers.

I would be curious to know how many sororites and fraternities are at U of I? PSU was always told we were the biggest in the country with 21 PHC and 54 IFC.
|
Hmmm, I had to check and total them up on the schools website. What I found was that we have 25 sororities listed. http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/panhellenic/chapters/
As for fraternities, there were 47 listed. http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/IFC/chapters.htm The numbers didn't include BGLOs, and I can't be certain about any underground ones or upcoming ones. I had heard rumors that ZTA was trying to come back on the campus, but I could be wrong. This is definitely interesting. I had no idea that your greek system was that big! |
U of I is the biggest due to both the number of chapters and the size of our chapters.
ZTA folded during the 98-99 school year. I believe it was due to low numbers. They were gone before I ever rushed. There is talk that they will return, but I believe that requires a unanimous vote from the college Panhellenic, and it will never happen. |
RE: UofI
Only 19 of the groups listed are NPC, though. Penn State has 21 of the 26 NPC groups in addition to all the NPHC, LGLO and multi-cultural groups. If you are interested, here are the statistics for the last few years... http://www.odos.uiuc.edu/greek/sor_rush_stats.htm RE: ZTA We will be colonizing at South Carolina-Aiken and University of KS-Lawrence. I don't know anything about U of I. Our Alpha Kappa chapter was chartered there in 1921. I don't know when (or why) it was closed. Quote:
