Know anything about hazing in Asian Greek system?
Question for friend:
Have any of you heard anything about the hazing and rituals in the Asian Greek system? |
1) You friend CANNOT be hazed unless she wants to be. Everyone has free will.
2) Even if the sorority in not on a council, there are still school rules and (maybe) local laws against hazing. Your friend should read up on what they are. 3) Your friend should go into rush with an open mind. Personally, I had never heard of any Asian org that hazed, but then again, I am not in an area with any AGLO's. 4) Your friend will not know what she is getting into until she pledges and actually experiences it herself. No one here on Gree Chat can give you the definitive Asian GLO experience because they are all different. 5) If she doesn't like the orgs on her campus, she could always try to charter a chapter of a different org. There are plenty. GOOD LUCK! |
To continue on that... Most who have been hazed (unless they left because of it) will not tell you that they have been hazed. Or they would not call it hazing -- the definition varies from GLO to GLO.
So like dardenr says... The only way to find out is to join. |
I've heard that the Asian sorority on my campus hazes, incontast to the ISC traditional sororities.
Although I don't know that from experience (like dardenr said, you have to join to really find out), sometimes non-Phanhellenic (traditional GLO's) or Pan Hellenic (traditionally African American GLO's), sometimes don't report to a governing body within the University. This gives them moreleway to do what they like, and unfortunately some hazing issues may not be addressed. The asian sorority on my campus is in this situation, although the appearance of antoher multicultural sorority is going to change this. :-) -M |
