Curious for Opinions on MC sororities/frats
What do you guys think of the recent establishment of the multicultural sororities/frats, namely the Latin and Asian GLO's?
The BGLOs were created when blacks weren't ALLOWED to join any of the already established GLOs. The need for the BGLOs was obvious and undisputable. However, in this day and age when a latino/a or an Asian can join a traditionally white/black GLO-- do you think these multicultural GLOs are necessary? I already have my own opinion on this issue, but I am curious to hear what everyone thinks after reading all these threads about blacks in white GLOs and whites in black GLOs. Asia |

I think multicultural GLO's (and GLO's for a specific culture, i.e. Latino/a or Asian) are awesome. I've met a few people who joined groups because of their diversity and their commitment to understanding, forwarding, and celebrating diverse cultures. If people are creating and joining them, then there's obviously a need for them, IMO. And I think they benefit the entire campus. Other than the typical community service from GLO's, I think they involve different cultures in campus life. I know at my school we had a large number of exchange students from Taiwan (as well as some from Mainland China and Japan). Most of these students stuck together and didn't get too involved in activities, mostly because they didn't speak English well and were just trying to adapt to an entirely new culture. I think if we would have had a MCGLO and/or an AGLO it would have brought many of these students together, but also brought them to participate more w/ the American students on campus. (Which would benefit the American students as much as it would the Asian ones). I'm all for MCGLOs!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ SilverTurtle@greekchat.com Phi Beta Fraternity Phi chapter |
I come from one of the most multicultural cities in the world (Vancouver) and we only have int'l NPC and IFC organizations at UBC. I believe its important we are in it all together because it teaches us to appreciate each others' cultures and religions.
