Rush Skit

One night of rush each house does a skit, ours is outdated and very cheesy. Any one have any ideas? At one time we had a jungle skit. I think it scared away rushees. Last year we tried a survivor theme, but we felt bad kicking girls off of the island we didnt want to send the wrong message. We have a lot of musical talent in my house, so something with music would be cool.

Please tell us what type of skit you want to phase out...it could be that everyone will suggest something that is too similar to what you are already doing.

I figure you can't go wrong with doing a parody of a recent funny movie with a good soundtrack (Austin Powers or something). Of course, I may be way off the deep end with this one. My school doesn't even have skit night. Some years back, Panhellenic at our school decided it took the focus away from what sororities are really about. So now we have a party called Sisterhood Celebration. It's actually my fave rush party.

Dianne,

I was just wondering if you could tell me more about your Sisterhood Celebration party. What exactly did you do at the party? Thanks!

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Haven't checked this thread in awhile. OK, so Sisterhood Celebration. It's hard to explain, so I'll just tell you about what we did last year and about the ones I went to when I rushed. You know the book "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood"? Well, our theme for the night was "Divine Secrets of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sisterhood." In the book, there's this big deal about a scrapbook, so the idea of the party was to make a scrapbook page with your rushee, mainly of Zeta things, and talk about why those things were important. Basically, you're supposed to lead the conversation in the direction of what it means to be in a sorority, what sisterhood really means, the friendships, etc. You try to move past the thing of "Oh, we have lots of mixers" and "Our philanthropy is this." This is the party before Pref, so we're really trying to know more about the girls' personalities. Are we comfortable with them? Are they comfortable with us? Can they find a home here? We talk about how Zeta has changed our lives, how much we love it, how near and dear our sisters are to us. Then we show an 8-minute slideshow with some rockin' music. When I was going through rush, this was the party that made me realize that I HAD to be a Zeta. We get all rowdy during the slideshow, and scream and yell and sing along at the tops of our voices.

I also went to Sisterhood Celebration at Phi Mu. The conversation was pretty much the same. They also did a slideshow, but it was less rowdy, party-it-up, and more sentimental. The kind that made you say, "Awwww." They also had one of their charter members come talk. She was this 80-year-old lady named Georgiana, and she dressed in all pink, and was cute as a button. She talked about how much Phi Mu meant to her, how she had always been an active alum, and what sweethearts the current actives were.

I also went to Kappa Alpha Theta that night. Their party was almost as serious as Pref. They all dressed in white, and the conversation was also basically the same. They had an alum from Nebraska talk whose daughter was a Theta at my school. It was very sweet, and she ended her talk with, "Not only is she my daughter. Now she's my sister." And so we all cried. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Then they started singing the slow sorority songs, and all the sisters were bawling their eyes out. Quite a difference from Zeta's raucousness!

Sisterhood Celebration is my favorite rush party. I am actually chairperson for ours this year, and I'm totally stoked! I have yet to hear about another school that does this though. Go figure. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
