Need Ideas for Risk Management programs
Hi I am the Panhellenic Risk chair and I was wondering if you guys know of any programs that I could try out for the sororities on my campus? Or any programs that you might have tried for your organization? Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you

There's a good CD-ROM called "Alcohol 101" that we use for risk reduction training.

Our chapter hired a martial arts/self-defense specialist to come in and teach us 'real-life' moves for getting out of bad situations - such as what to do if you are laying down and there is someone on top of you or you are grabbed from behind. Everyone paired up and actually practiced on each other (side note: we thought it would have been fun to invite some fraternity guys to use as dummies in the demonstrations). In addition, he brought tons of info on what to do if you think you are drugged, such as where to go and what the symptoms are. It was a GREAT risk management program, very informative and very REAL.

We have that Alcohol 101 CD, too.. cute, isn't it? I'm not certain how effective it will be, but the information in it was decent and I think it will be worth using. It might be fun, in particular, to set up "teams" to answer the "game show"-like questions. My laptop didn't want to run the videos where you make decisions for the characters, so I can't comment on those. We are a dry sorority, but we realize that our girls will drink on their own time, and we intend to do a session on alcohol use/abuse sometime during the membership candidacy process (also, our President is a Freshman RA and I'm a certified First Responder, so it's particularly a subject that we would like to hit on).

Sadly I had to miss it, but last year one of our professional speakers was some sort of martial arts instructor, which I heard was a lot of fun, and most likely served as a sort of brief intro into self defense. It's something that I would certainly like to see us do again (preferably on a date that I can attend!), because it's just so important!!!
