Wedding traditions?
 

I was just looking around and i was wondering if we had any traditions for wedding ceremonies. Im not getting married anytime soon but i was just wondering if i do get married, i want to be able to include phi mu in my wedding. So let me if anyone knows of any.

One thing I know of stems from a chapter development that we always did. (not sure if it came out of an official CD book or not...) You can PM me for more details about the CD. But the outcome was earning small, loose pearls that are to be sewn on your wedding dress. The pearls are reminders of your sisters and the memories you made in Phi Mu as a collegiate.

I've also known people to pin their badge to their wedding slip or crinoline (as seen in Steel Magnolias)

At one sister's wedding that I attended we circled around her at the reception and sang a couple of Phi Mu songs (but I don't remember which ones we sang!)

I heard of sisters telling ushers that they are Phi Mus when they are being seated. They receive a carnation and are seated directly behind the family of the bride. I think it's sweet because Phi Mus are your family, too. I plan on doing this when I get married.

We usually sing a phi mu song at the wedding. And we also had a song and a dance that we did. of course, not all of the phi mu weddings i have been to have had these things done. i guess it depends on the brides wishes, too!

One of our sisters got married this weekend (it was absolutely beautiful) and she wore my badge on the inside of her dress. It was really special knowing that she was wearing MY badge. And in fact, the lady I was sitting next to struck up a conversation at the reception and come to find out was a UGA Phi Mu (the wedding was in Atlanta) from "long, long, long ago" as she put it. Supposedly another sister at the wedding was sitting next to another Phi Mu alumna. I just thought that was so exciting. Anyway, not any traditions here, just wanted to share a glimpse of one of our sister's wedding. Though when I get married I hope I will be able to wear her badge, or one of my other sisters as my "something borrowed" because then it will have two meanings!

At my great-grandbig's wedding we all circled up at the reception and sang Part of a Family. I don't think there was a dry eye in the hall. Even the non-Phi Mu's thought it was beautiful. We couldn't even make it through the song without bawling, it's amazing we finished it at all! :)

I had a very special reading read for my wedding in the church. An almost inaudible gasp came from the back of the church where my sisters were sitting. Only we knew what it meant.
And of course my bridesmaids were in pink;)

which reading? Was it from the Bible? If it was I bet I can guess...

Oh, of course it was from the Bible!! Had to have it my way!

At our sisters weddings we sing Picture a Girl to them and then dance. It's really special!

For my wedding, I wore my "little" carnation sister's badge on my gown. I sewed it on, because I wanted to be sure that it would never fall off by accident. Afterwards, I just clipped the threads that held it on and gave it back to her. It was my "something borrowed."

At the reception, we circle the bride and her new husband and sing "Dreams."

One of our sisters got married a week ago and we all wore our pins and recieved a rose carnation as we were sitted behind her family. We all circled up around her and sang Picture a Girl and danced to Brown Eyed Girl! We have adopted that song! We sing "You're MY Phi Mu girl!!!" It was so special and we were ALL crying! Such a special bond that no one else had a clue of! I LOVE BEING A PHI MU!!
