Character Counts
Has anyone had any experience with the "Character Counts" program? I've read a little bit about it and am considering presenting it to my chapter as a possible community service event.

Character Counts
Character Counts is a character education program that focuses on teaching the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. When the elementary school that I teach at was looking at developing a character education curriculum, we looked into the Character Counts program. In the end, we decided that it was too structured for the needs of our school and students, and we developed our own program.
I think it is great to seek GLOs exploring programs such as this, and I wish your chapter the best of luck with it. |
This isn't very helpful, but ... for a while AXD had some kind of partnership with them (our philanthropy is children), but that seems to have disappeared. I never actually worked with them. But I believe Colin Powell is involved, so how can you go wrong?

From the Alpha Xi Delta web page....
Character Really Does Count Alpha Xi Delta is committed to making a difference not only in the philanthropic work we do with children and families, but also in sending a message about the importance of good character to college students, and in helping our members become better parents, grandparents, siblings, working professionals and citizens. Since 1997, Alpha Xi Delta has been a member of the Character Counts! Coalition. The Coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan alliance of some of the largest and most influential educational, youth-serving organizations in the country. The Character Counts! program promotes "Six Pillars of Character" that transcend political, religious, socio-economic and cultural differences. The "Six Pillars of Character" are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. A couple years ago, Alpha Xi Delta used Character Counts as the foundation to our leadership conference - I wasn't there but I heard a lot of wonderful comments about the program. From everything that I have heard, it sounds like you are considering a great organization/program for your service event. |
