well i did a little research on my own about this pin....from what i head (and this is from an alum/advisor) at my alma matr, she said that that pin was to denote a pregnant sister, like a baby spoon or something, but they were only used for a short period. but she was not 100% sure. anyone have any other explanations?

I know that years ago, the Greek jewelry companies used to offer all kinds of odd and unusual things with sorority/fraternity crests on them. I know there's a ZTA pin out there that's a sword with our crest on it. It showed up on eBay a few months ago and one our our national officers has that same pin, that was her mother's from when her mother was a collegian ZTA.

I have seen a few other spoon pins, generally from the same era ... maybe it was just a fad?

Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to share my new found knowledge with you. I too am in a sorority and have been frustrated and curious as to why pins are being put and sold on eBay.
My Nationals told our chapter President that these pins (every sororities) are coming from estate sales. So, if the person does not return the pin or get buried in it, it gets auctioned off with the rest of the person's stuff after she passes away. My Nationals has told us to e-mail/call whenever we see pins on eBay so they can quickly buy them. I am sure everyone's nationals would do the same thing.
I just wanted to fill everyone in because I know there have been numerous questions regarding this issue.
Good Luck with Rush!!!

Unfortunately our organization doesn't have the funds like aoii to buy back our pins :( I was told a similar thing for our National Consultant, but it is up to a sister to buy it back. Nationals just doesn't have enough money to salvage all the pins up for auction.

HOWEVER, I did come across a bidder that is an alum and she evidently buys a lot of the Chi Omega pins and donates them to Nationals. How noble of her!
