College Literary Societies

College literary societies are the precursor organizations to most fraternity and sororities with more then 100 years of history. I am a member of the Delphic Fraternity, originally the Delphic Society, a college literary society founded in 1871 at the Geneseo State Normal School in upstate New York.

I was curious to know what other fraternity members on Greek Chat are member of fraternities or sororities that can trace their history to a college literary society?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and historical fraternity/sorority knowledge.

My college had many sororities that were established from literary societies such as Alpha Delta and Alpha Kappa Phi (Agonian) Sororities as well as Delta Kappa Fraternity.

Technically speaking, Alpha Phi Alpha began as (what we call) a social study club, then a society, then fraternity. We rarely call it a literary society, but that's pretty much what it was.
