Hmmm
I'm going through rush, and I have a tongue ring. Exactly how much to sororities focus on appearance? Should I wear a tongue retainer (clear tongue ring so nobody can really tell I have one) during rush just in case?
|
I also have my tongue peirced, and I went through rush with a plain silver barbell. I just made sure not to clack it around (bad habit of mine when I'm nervous), and tried not to show it when I talk. It turned out that another pledge sister, and two initiates had theirs peirced too!!
Really, I wouldn't worry too much about what you look like. I would try to dress neatly and fix your hair and makeup nicely, but I wouldn't obsess, and definitely be yourself! I was totally myself when I rushed, tongue ring and all, and I got my first choice, and found my new home!!! Email me if you have any questions, and Good Luck!! Personally, I think that you probably got the tongue ring because you really wanted it. Do you really want to join a sorority that will judge you on that? At my school, lots of girls have them...but that Michigan. Where are you rushing?
|
some sororities would probably hold your tongue ring against you (like at schools where almost no one has a tongue ring or other "body piercings"). at other schools, it would probably not be an issue.
i would not recommend "deceiving" the sororities by not wearing it during rush and they wearing it all the time once you've got a bid. if you really like your tongue ring, then wear it. the sorority should get as accurate as possible a representation of how you like to present yourself... and if they don't want the real you, then you shouldn't want them, either. |
Most sororities are not going to make their decision based on whether you have a toungue ring. If your personality is right, and they can see you would fit very well into their chapter, a toungue ring is not going to keep you out. Don't worry about it and be yourself!

All I have to say is that half of my chapter has something pierced... tounge, eyebrow, belly button... dont worry! (most have their tounge!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif )

Hey xyratia, good to see you here. This is star_angel_00 from Bolt. Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the tongue ring. It's something that helps to make you unique, and that's what the girls are going to be looking for during rush. I say go ahead and wear it. I know there are some girls in my house who have tongue rings, eyebrow rings, and tattoos. Everyone always says to be yourself when you go through rush, and that ring is part of who you are. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Good luck.

You would fit in perfectly in my house. 70% of the girls have their tongues pierced. I'm one of the exceptions. I only have my navel pierced.
|
When I was an active, belly buttons were the big thing to pierce. Now, when I go back, everyone has their tongue pierced. And not just my sorority...a lot of women have them. Don't worry!!! You just be yourself! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

All I can say to this topic is OUCH, I can't even get my ears pierced!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif
But I agree - definitely leave that tongue ring in. |
