Selecting Your Littles
 

How is the process in your chapter?
Currently there are five of us and we possibly may get 5-10 more in our next PC, because that's what we usually get. What would be best for a small chapter?

The pledgemaster selects based on personality and interests of the brothers and pledges. The brother has to apply for a little in writing. (at Mu Alpha)

This is how we do it in our chapter.

The previous pledge class gets assigned first as Big, before we move back thru each successive pledge class.

We try to assign bigs/littles based on personality and on major/interest.

Due to our feeling of 'conflict of interest', current pledge master & president don't get assigned bigs.

Assigning big/little also places the little in one of our chapter's families, and the little is expected to know their family tree. (we give them a copy of this).

Bigs are also expected to come up with the little's nickname (which they are given after being inducted) and obtaining their first letter shirt (again, given after their induction).

My chapter is small too. We usually just all put in a bid for a little and if there are two brothers who want the same little, we try to match the pledge with the best brother for him/her.

Due to the "conflict of interest" issue, we recently put in our chapter bylaws that the pledgemaster cannot have a little.

We don't do the"big" and"little" things. We have "spec's" (pronounced spesh). I guess it the same thing. I know the chapter around the corner(Vanderbilt) uses bigs, and littles

We have little/bigs at our chapter. How we do it is this: The girls from the latest line get first pick at having a little sister. If the new line has more members than the previous line then older sisters will pick one up if they want to.

Also we tend to gravitate to those that share the same line number as well.

I have 4 littles right now...don't need anymore. Bro_strawter, you know Tweety. Tweety is my little sister.

I didn't know that. I thought Tweety pledged after you. I learn something new everyday.:)

She did pledge after me (I'm Spring '98, she's Spring '99). The thing was, I didn't pick her, she was assigned to me :D, lol. I already had a little (the #1 on her line) but she didn't have anybody so I picked her up. That's the only line where I have two littles, the #1 and Tweety.

I haven't had a little since Fall '99. The ones I have are enough :D
