Confused:Please Help!
 

Hey, I've been reading everyone's posts on recs and got a little confused. When I filled out my recruitment application it said Not to send a pic or resume. So I sent it in with the application fee, and now I'm afraid that I was supposed to send a rec. Can someone please help me in figuring out if I need a rec to rush and not get cut right away at the University of Florida? Also, does anyone have any UF advice on rush? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my questions, I'm really excited about the whole rush/recruitment happening from Aug.18-26. GO GATORS!

If UF doesn't want your pic or your resume then you don't need it! some schools require it and some schools do not! at my we just ask for the application and then your picture will be taken at Rush when you get there by your Rho Chi. But if it makes you feel better just call greek affairs at your school and ask about what you need for rush! GOOD LUCK!!

I would send my picture and resume. I would also get as many recs as possible. UF is a large school and if memory serves me (my bf from HS went to school there) 1,000 +/- potential new members. Anything you can do to stand out (in a good way) with that many rushees is helpful. There are a few GC members that attend UF that probably can assist you better. The application you fill out for Panhellenic that is copied and sent to the sororities is very basic. Resumes and/or recs give you a more detailed introduction to the chapters. Pictures enable them to recognize you when you walk through the door. ***This of course is only my opinion.***

If they said specifically not to send them, don't send them. They'll get to Panhellenic and they'll toss them. At my school we don't use recs or photos. That's the way my panhellenic council chooses to do it and that sounds like what UF panhellenic choose, also.

I apologize for not being more specific... The pictures, resumes and recs should go to the sororities/membership chair, not Panhellenic. Most schools websites/nationals have the appropriate address where resumes (pictures) and recs may be sent.

I know many schools are saying not to send pictures, resumes or that you do not need recs. As a very wise sister said in another post (Carnation), I hate that schools say this, but the fact is in big schools, especially in the south (for many GLOs), you need it. It does make a difference.
