Out of Commission

Hi ladies,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be away this weekend and probably won't be checking GC and that when I get back I will be getting my eyes fixed and might not be donig much on the computer for a few days. If there is a problem please PM Stacey (aphigal) and I am sure she will get back to you or deal with the issue as soon as possible.

Wish me luck.

Laura

Laura, I hope the surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery! Are you having laser surgery?

SATX*APhi 10-31-2002 04:25 AM

Laura,

I just wanted to see how things are a few months after the surgery? Have you noticed an improvement? Would you recommend the surgery to others?

cutiepatootie 10-31-2002 07:00 AM

The surgery is SO AMAZING! I am still walking around closing what used to be my good eye and reading things for people. I am like a little kid saying, "Look mom, I run so much faster with my new tennis shoes!"

The first night after my surgery we had an earthquake at 2:37 a.m. I was so excited b/c I knew what time the earthquake happened. It used to be that I never knew. I love being able to see first thing in the morning, wear cute sunglasses and most of all, I love having depth perception. I have not yet played real sports since the surgery, but I look forward to testing my improved hand eye coordination in the near future!

I highly recommend getting the surgery but warn everyone to go to the right doctor. There are so many surgery centers now and it is so important to go to the right person and get an opinion from someone else (like a real opthomalogist who doesn't do Lasik) about whether or not you are a good candidate. I've heard so many horror stories from people who went to the wrong doctor.

As I walked out of the doctor's office after getting my first pair of glasses (while I was in middle school), I was reading to my mom all of the business signs from far away. :)

I am glad that the surgery was successful! As a graduation gift, my parents have thought about letting me get the surgery done. I am super jealous! I want to wake up and be able to look at the clock. :p

cutiepatootie 11-02-2002 01:34 AM

me too!

I would love to be able to wake in the AM and not have to put my glasses on first thing to see!

It's so funny b/c my vision had gotten so bad that I was going through prescriptions every 6 months. At Convention I was walking around unable to recognize people until they were close up even though I had my glasses on. It was so frustrating! I can't wait for Palm Springs when I'll be able to walk around with cute sunglasses and know who is talking to me!

cutiepatootie 11-02-2002 11:14 AM

i know what your saying...

I have been in glasses since the day i could walk. I almost lost my sight at chidbirth (mom was in labor with me way to long). Anyhow, i been wearing glasses all my life and without them i couldn't see past 10 feet in front of me. I know what you mean by it getting progessingly worse and by getting prescriptions ever few months.
My last vision check up, the doctor played with the idea of me seeking a consult to see if i am a good candidate for the lasik procedure.
I love to be able to go around with cute sunglasses too. I love to not have to worry about my frames getting lost or in my case my 2 yr old trying to reconfigure them inot an action toy. haha :)

It is one week from today that i will be initated as an alumnae initiate! i cannot wait. I found FINALLY a pure white dress( hard hard hard this time of yr) , white pumps, and at Ross yesterday found a cute Liz Claiborne purse. I am all set! i have my badge, certificate and card all ready too!:)

But i am off to head over tot he ULV law library for a tort brief due monday for class. woo hoo!:)

Well, that would be assuming we actually get out to see the light of day, unlike Tucson!

You'll have to save that picture of you in the current Quarterly for posterity...last photo with glasses!

bruinaphi 11-04-2002 09:36 PM

It's so funny that you say that. Someone called me the other day b/c the picture doesn't identify me and said, "Did you get new glasses? Those aren't your usual glasses." I was like, no...No new glasses for me baby! Those were the same glasses I wore everyday for 4 or 5 years. I haven't brought myself to get rid of them yet. I can't decide if I should turn them into sun glasses or donate them to one of those associations that provides glasses to poor people. Only problem with my glasses is that my prescription is so unusual they'll never find anyone who can use my glasses.

Yes, that was me with Amy T at Convention/Rush U. We were having some fun. You should have seen the pictures from upstairs afterwards when everyone was piling streamers on my head to make Linda Schnetzer laugh. Amy T made me a birthday card with a picture on the front that is totally classic!
