Cold

I think I'm starting to get a cold. :( You know when you have that feeling?

Any suggestions to help curb it before it happens?

Right now I'm drinking tons of water and cranberry juice.

I DON'T WANT TO BE SICK!!!

PotentialPledge 08-21-2002 12:34 PM

try the herbal remedy echinacea

I'm getting one too! And I have an audition in 2 1/2 hours.

Optimist:

What's your audition for? You a singer?

PS: Love your signature quotation.

Edited to add:

1) SLEEEEEEEP! As much as possible.

2) Drink TONS of liquids, especially those that are high in Vitamin C.

3) Try ionized Zinc lozenges, like Cold-eez. I know they taste terrible, but they do stimulate your immune system.

4) SLEEEEEEEP some more.

5) Wash your hands, especially after doing things like blowing your nose.

6) Change your toothbrush and chapstick, etc. It'll keep you from re-infecting yourself.

7) For heaven's sake, don't smooch anybody.

8) SLEEEEEEEP some more.

9) Start taking a decongestant like Sudafed and/or an expectorant like Robitussin. It'll keep you loose and draining and prevent it from developing into a bacterial infection in your sinuses or chest.

1000 mg of Vitamin C and 60 mg of Zinc twice a day until the symtoms subside.

KappaKitty, nope I'm an actor. It was for the plays this semester.

In the words of the great Louis Black:

The only thing I love about taking a cold is that I get to take my favorite drug which is Nyquil.

AOX81 08-22-2002 08:27 AM

Well I have my cold curbed momentarily but I still feel it coming on.

I stopped at the store this morning on my way to work and bought two bottles of orange juice, two bottles of water, and some Vitamin C supplement drops.

I also popped a few Echinacea and two Tylenol cold tablets.

Please don't let me get sick, please don't let me get sick...I want to have fun this weekend.

Well if it's a cold -- which is a virus you can't possibly reinfect yourself. Your memory T cells form an immunity to the virus. Just take meds to combat the symptoms. There isn't much else you can do.

I learned something in biology, see?

To protect your voice I'd recommend hot tea with lemon and honey.

Cold-eeze definitely work well in addition to everything you're doing. Also eat chicken soup (homemade, if possible--it's really easy to make). There have been studies that show that chicken soup really does make you feel better.

College is coming in handy on this topic, last semester I took a human ecology class and we learned a lot of these remedies really DO NOT WORK, despite what my parents and grandparents have taught me. We learned that nyquil is like 90% alcohol. Vitamin C does work because it boosts your immune system. Cough Drops are mainly candy that has glycerine in it. Glycerine sooths your throat as does chicken soup. The one thing that works is a drug called Dextromethorapham (sp?) you can find it in Robutussin DM. Hope this helps.

Stay away from the pop/soda...
Take a lot of Vitamin C and a multivitamin too...
Sleep well....no late night partying/gc chatting etc.
Stop smoking (if you're a smoker)...
Lastly I recommend a small amount of exercise to keep your metabolism going. Sound funny I know, but it could very well help you feel better.

I'm certainly not a bio major but you don't normally hear of people getting colds in August. Are you sure it's not allergies?

Anyways, my only piece of advice is to drink even more water if you take an antihistamine. They are dehydrating.

People get colds year round. For some reason occurances increase during winter months though.

My allergies have been pretty bad lately though.
