question for Zetas
I rushed at the school I transferred from, and went to pref parties for KD and Zeta. I cried at Zeta's pref. The girls were absolutely wonderful, and they obviously all loved each other dearly. I didn't pledge because of family financial problems, and after I transferred, I took a 3 year break from school to help out for a while, decide exactly what I wanted to do, and save some money. I'm 25, have a 2.5 GPA, lots of volunteer hours, about 2 1/2 more years until graduation. I've been involved in several organizations in our community and on campus, but the one thing I've wanted to do that I haven't was join a sorority. My roommates (both 19) were going to rush this year but decided to wait on me. (I just brought my GPA up highh enough - that's why I haven't before now). So here are my questions:
1) Is my GPA too low? 2) How big of a deal is my age? Will this work against me? 3) I have one woman willing to write a rec for me. Do I need more? I'd be grateful for any advice ya'll could give. Have a great semester!! |
I don't know anything about the chapter you are interested in but you won't know anything unless you try. Get more recs, they can only help. What is the gpa requirement to go through recruitment? Usually its a 2.3 although some chapters will hold a higher standard, depends on the school. And as for age, don't worry about it. Technically your still a sophomore so you would have plenty of time to put into a chapter if you pledge.
Good luck. If you already missed formal recruitment make sure you meet some sisters throughout the semester to get your questions answered. |
Age does not matter as faras I know but the only thing is that MTSU raised the GPA requirment eiither that or Panhellinic did it used to be 2.3 and now its a 2.5 I dont know if theres any way to get past that or not but you could always try :)

Well, rush is a no go this semester - I was told I have to wait until spring. Have a great week next week, and I'll talk to you soon!

Keep working on bringing up your GPA, and you will be much more desireable as a potential new member! :D Involvement in various school activities (clubs for example) is also a big plus. MTSU sororities tend to be very open to having older girls join if they meet all the other requirements anyhow. New sisters who are not freshmen are less likely to drop out (or be kicked out-which would only happen as a result of SERIOUS deviation), because they are usually more stable in the following ways:
<b>academically: more likely to be focused, have good study habits, etc. <b>financially: more likely to have a good, steady source of income, as well as possibly have money saved up for the occasion of sprority dues <b>emotionally: less likely to be overwhelmed by the whole college experience, less likely to suddenly go "wild" because of college freedoms, more enthusiastic about being involved in the sorority and/or wanting to take on leadership roles within it, etc. So honestly, at least as far as MTSU is concerned, age is not a HUGE deal, although I can't speak for all the sororities. Although many do PREFER freshmen, that certainly does NOT mean that they WON'T accept older girls. :D Hope I've helped you out, and good luck in school and with your future endeavors! :) |
You guys have been a big help! I'll defintely be rushing in the spring, so I look forward to getting to meet everyone. Have a great recruitment week and an awesome semester!
