rush question
Ladies, I have a question. I am extremely interested in rushing this fall, but I have a small problem. I had been very sick in the middle of spring quarter and my grades suffered that quarter due to it. I know that sororites look at grades also when they go to choose the future members, but are there ever exceptions made? Basically I'm asking if there is even a point in me rushing this fall. I know that most people that rush are either freshman or sophomores and that makes me kind of tentative to wait another year to rush. I hope that I haven't been too confusing, and I thank you so much in advance. Thankyou!!

Hi Steph, I would contact your Greek Office and find out what the minimum GPA is in order to participate in Recruitment. If possible, see if they can tell you each chapter's GPA requirements also.

I agree with Leslie. Check out the Greek Office first. They can help you out with a lot of things!!

There is generally a minimum GPA required to rush, and the chapters cannot go below that - the university or their nationals won't let them. If your GPA is below it, I recommend waiting to rush - the school might not even let you sign up.
However, chapters also frequently look for GPAs higher than that. Say Mu Mu wants girls with at least a 3.0. In a case like that, I would explain to them your situation. Knowing that you had a good reason for your grades (particularly if your first semester ones were good) could help you out a lot. Getting awfully sick could happen to anyone, and it's a lot different than, "Oh, I didn't feel like studying." |
I have seen many women send in letters with their recruitment applications explaining a drop in their grades due to illness, etc. I think that many groups will consider you if you can explain your grades and also think talking to your Greek Advisor is a great idea.
Good luck in recruitment! Laura |
