an "older person's" rush experience
Ah well it is finally Sunday and we have an info session tonight. That I think will probably be the most relaxing event out of them all. Here at USF we have the following sororities:
1) Alpha Delta Pi 2) Alpha Omicron Pi 3) Delta Gamma 4) delta delta delta 5) Sigma Delta Tau 6) kappa delta 7) Chi Omega I'm a little nervous since I am a junior (switched my major). In fact I am so fruity right now that I just cleaned my car and it's now a new shade of green. This is very rare for me. Well, I did my nails, tweezed, shaved and deep-conditioned my booty length hair(and yes it is that long) so I feel phsyically prepared. Now, if I could just remember to relax!! I will try to post but I might get cut real soon. So this might not be that interesting. Oh well, I will relax, smile and get all the cat hair off my shirt. :D |
Good luck! I can't wait to hear the rest of your story.
GO KD! :D hehe... just a shameless plug |
RosmaPomia, will it take you more than 2 years to graduate since you've changed your major? If so, you'd probably want to mention that if possible. Most chapters like to know that an upperclasswoman PNM will be around longer than expected--and that certainly wouldn't hurt!
Good luck! Please let us know how things are going for you this week. Christin |
Just be yourself and do not be too worried about being cut! Chapters often take Juniors. I pledged as a Junior and was very active within my chapter!:)

Hey RosmaPomia :) I cant wait to read your story. Nerves are only natural... just go on in there and have fun!!!
BTW, my cousin goes to USF and he loves it! |
just got back from orientation and I feel much better. There is another "old" person in my group. It is comforting. I go to the first round of parties tommorrow at 3:30-9:30. I will let you all know how it goes. :D

Good Luck and keep us updated! :)

Good Luck with rush and don't worry about being an "older person"! We had a girl in my pledge class who was 21 and she's an awesome individual! :D Rock it out during rush and let people see that you are more than just your age.

Good luck with rush! :)

round 1 is over
Alright the first day is over. We don't rank until tommorrow night. We only have six sororities participating in recruitment. I thought it was seven. Silly Me:)
I'm not going to list names so I don't offend anyone. #1) I was really nervous but when I walked in they thought I was deaf and paired me with a girl who could sign because there is a deaf girl in my pi chi group. After that was unconfused, I was all good. They were very nice and had a very diverse appearing group. I liked that a lot. 2) I felt a little uncomfortable talking to the first girl but the second girl I loved. She was truly down-to-earth. We did this circle thing where the whole chapter introduced themselves and that was neat. I did feel like I was forcing the convo at times. 3) This room was actually hot. I do mean literally but I just loved these girls. They were smart!! You can't fake that. I just loved them. We did another circle and did a kind of rockette style kicking thing. 4) This chapter confused me with our handicapped group member. They apologized profusely to me and I thought that it was very considerate of them to find someone that could sign and that person specifically paired up with them. That also impressed me at the first party. I ended up talking to the same girl pretty much the whole time and we ended up talking about random stuff. Just felt totally relaxed. 5) This chapter I had heard a lot of bad stuff about so I kind of dreading this one but I was surprised. The girl I ended up talking to the most was funny. We ended talking about senior pranks at the end. She kind of blurted out a "profanity" but hey everyone slips. I met a lot of people in this one. 6) This was another one that I was really dreading and I was kind of right. It was really hard to hear. It was most likely the room. I just felt really uncomfortable. The girl I was talking to kept looking at her watch and that just made more uncomfortable. Tommorrow, we are making crafts in each of the chapters. That should be neat. Then, we rank. I am having a blast. I really had no idea it would be this fun. :D :D :D :D |
I didn't think that actives were allowed to wear watches in runsh parties? If someone that you are talking to, keeps looking at their watch would you be offend. Bottom line it's just RUDE.

Great update, Rosma! You have an awesome attitude going into things, and I'm sure it's carried over to the houses' opinions of you.
I'm SO sorry that that sister was staring at her watch! Obviously the VP-Membership was stressing over the first night and must have overlooked that. (I have never heard of a house that allows watches!) Good luck with the rest of recruitment! Keep us informed!! |
I just wanted to wish you the best of luck girl! You have nothing to worry about. If you are enjoying yourself in a house, feeling really comfortable, and feel that you are meshing very well with the girls that are rushing you, then chances are they feel the same way too. Don't sweat! Relax and be confident :) It sounds like your rushing is going GREAT!!

RosmaPomia,
Good writing, I totally understood your impressions of each chapter. About the watch thing, yes, rude, enough said. I'm so glad you have an open mind about the chapter you were "dreading" you can see how wrong reputations can be! Also whole chapters can change with one motivated new member class, I've seen it happen, so reps can be really rather temporary. Good luck with the rest of Recruitment, let us in on the details! violets |
I am so impressed with the chapters that prepared for the handicapped girl! That says so much!
Enjoying your story and wishing you the best of luck! |
