Depressed
So I called one of my sisters(aka my bf/and one of my roomies in the sorority house my sophomore yr). I wanted to inivite her to my going away party(It's mainly family so I didn't invite my whole house bc my parents don't have a lot of money to accomodate a lot of people), but she can't come bc she's on panhellenic and they have a retreat tomorrow. anyway even though she's not suppossed to she went to the sorority house bc 2 sisters came up to do pillow/paddle during work week bc they aren't coming back. Anyway the whole time I'm on the phone with her she is talking to the girls at teh house. And they are all going out. No one said they missed me or invited me--of course I've already been drinking so I couldn't drive anyway-plus it's an hour away. All the girls moved into the house today and I remember all of the excitement when i had moved in last yr. I guess I'm just rambling. I never really had many friends in my house, so i guess it's good that I am leaving!

sorry to hear that, but it's no use living somewhere if you're not happy (especially too if you're paying to stay in that place). home should be a happy place for everyone. why are you leaving? are you just leaving the house to live off campus or are you leaving that school too? i wish you luck in the fall!

I'm moving to Florida!!! I'm from colorado. Hootie-- I know thatwhen I come back to visit it will be really awkward which makes me kind of not want to go visit!
Last night i felt like I didn't even exist and I haven't even left for Florida yet!! |
I moved around frequently and it seemed to be hit or miss with liking a place or MISSING a place. I've lived here for 22 years and every time we travel, I wonder and silently wish I could live somewhere else. I like change. I've never been to the reunions of the HS I gradated from, but kept my ties and go to the reunions of the HS I WOULD have graduated from if I hadn't moved. It just sounds like you haven't put down any roots yet.
That will come in time, but it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. There are many people who for short periods of time were "important" in my life. Today, I can barely remember their names much less their faces. I'm sure it's mutual. It's like that Niel Young phrase-"It doesn't mean that much to me, to mean that much to you." When you find people that you share lifestyle, philosophy and interests with, then you will connect on a deeper level. Till then, people may move in and out of your life with only momentary impact. That isn't bad, it's just a differet way that may be foreign to others. Some people have the ability to collect friends like books and that is a gift. Yet it's just as comforting to have those true great novels that you read over and over, each time gaining new insight. Florida may be just the place for you to discover new and deep connections. |
Excellent point JAM.
Reminds me of something I read somewhere once. It said something about how everyone that passes through our lives is here to teach us something and we are meant to learn and grow through these people. Sometimes, we will have learned all we can from each other and these people will pass away from us as a natural progression of life. If we look at it this way, we don't simply lose friends so much as we gain knowledge and continue on to new experiences. I'm sure I messed up the wording of that and I REALLY wish I could remember where it originally came from. Anway, it's a beautiful way to look at things and has really helped me through some similar situations. Best of luck to you in Florida. I'm sure you'll have a great time. |
Thanks everyone for all your advice/comments.
Just because I may not remain friends with them in the future doesn't mean i won't cherish the memories nor does it mean they aren't great people. I think that when you don't see people often it is hard to be friends, bc oftentimes you begin to play remember when bc both people have changed thus they often can't make their friendship work. |
