GDI's...
Hey I was just wondering if anybody out there gets a lot of slack for being greek from GDI's?
|
I don't but I just pledged last semester. My friends will give me some slack sometimes. Whenever we talk about it they'll like ask me if I go to a party with my sisters if they (my friends) can hang out with me or do I have to stick with my sorority sisters. It kind of annoys me.

Last year I had a position on my campus paper, and I was the only greek. The staff was filled with those political, greek-hating, hippie, know-it-all types. There were a few moments of tension, especially when I proposed big greek/campus events (i.e- NPC Rush, Greek Week, Homecoming, big philanthropy day's) be reported rather than another annoying page-long rant by the editor. These people cared more about puting their own opinions in print than reporting what the student's wanted too see.

I hate to sound stupid, but what does the GD in GDI stand for?
I know the "I" is independent. But yes, I get TONS of flack from my non-greek friends for being in a sorority. I just take it with a smile! ;) |
Only from people who don't know me, but see me wearing Greek letters
I've only been Greek for a year, and people who I meet for the first time comment on me being Greek, They always tell me, and I am sure you have all heard it, that I am only paying for friends. If that be the case, and I quote this from another user, "I can never have too many friends."
The reason I think we as a whole get it on my campus is b/c we 60% greek. Everyone here that is Greek enjoys it and I think that the GDI's have heard so much negativity about the Greek system that they don't give it a chance |
I got some flack from my best friend a long time ago, but then I rubbed it in her face cuz she rushed, dropped out, transferred schools and contemplating rushing MY chapter. For someone who certainly gave a lot of crap about me being greek, she certainly did try hard to join for a while

At Kent State we are only 4% Greek and we catch a lot of slack from GDI's. Now dont get me wrong, there are some who dont bother us for being greek, but there are some people that make it seem like there whole mission is to destroy the Greek system. As I said before we are only 4% greek, but we run everything. We have 9 positions on Student Senate and last year they were all greek. Almost everyone on Homecoming Court was greek and so on. But the one orginazation that we do not have an greeks in is the school newspaper. This is where the most damage is done. All of the negative articles printed deter many students from rushing. But in the end we really dont care about what they have to say, we just keep doing what we have been and we will keep running the university like we have been.

People who do not Know are the first ones aways to complain!
Why, because they are afraid of the unknown! Get inside and find out what the Greeks Do then write an article about Greeks! GDI what does it stand for? G--Da--Indepents! If you aint in then you lose! Reminds me of a room mate in the only time I lived in the Dorm at PSU, he had a fan! 119 at night in KS! He only blew on himself! What a butt munch! |
I got thrown out of a party and had my pedegree and personal hygene questioned, but it was at Amherst College, and what can you really expect of those people?
|
*sighs* Yes, GDI's are pains at times. I am for now (been for about 3 college years) But, ya know, it's kinda hard on the ones who are dating greeks :p I used to get a load-o-crap when I wore a TKE pin (not the -actual- pin, more of an advertisement pin) on my bookbag. Some of the GLO's would get on me about it and even some would approach the TKE's about it and gripe. Yeah, even if it wasn't their letters. I hate to see what they'll say now when I show up on campus wearing my boyfriends letters...
One really quick gripe on GDI's...at our campus we have the a spot of land in the middle of campus where all the greek picnic tables are. All the glo's spent a lot of time painting them and all and they look really great..that is until the 'others' would purposely start scratching off the paint and carving in something inappropriate in the wood. Over the summer I was on campus and seen a few start messing w/a fraternity table (I didn't even really liek them..) and I ripped them a new one..I highly dislike the 'bad gdi's'... |
Thanks! :)
Hey, thanks all for responding.
I hate it my campus. It's either your greek or your a GDI and you dislike all of those that are greek life. I have a few friends that are GDI's and that just like to be independent and have nothing against greeks, but then you have those that say what somebody else said,"ohh, well, you pay for your friends." Ohh well, it sucks, but what are you going to do. |
It's funny how they hate us but don't know a damned thing about us.
I have friends that tell me that I don't belong to a 'typical' fraternity. Mine is of 'higher' quality... While I agree with that statement somewhat:cool: There are other houses on campus that are pretty close to ours and they just regard those people as 'frat boys' and such because they don't know them.... They see the letters before they see the person or persons wearing them. |
