RUSH at UA

Hey everyone! I'm going to be rushing at U of Alabama this fall and I just had a question. Is rush at UA REALLY as bad as everyone says it is? I'd appreciate any advise from anyone who's been through rush at UA (or any other major Southern school for that matter!) Also, I am a legacy in one sorority and I wanted to know how much of an impact that has. Thanks so much!

Hey, I'm a high school senior too! I really considered going to UA for about half this year! There are like 3 other girls on here who are planning to go though, so I'm sure this post will be active pretty soon. I've been told that the best way to go is to get as MANY recs as possible, not to wear cologne at the parties, you know stuff like that. A greek friend of mine from UA explained the process to me once. What part of AL are you from? I'll be going to JSU and I've heard rush there is much easier. Well good luck and keep in touch!

Ladies,
Southern Theta posted a wonderful post on Rush advice. You can find it here: http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/...ML/000085.html

Good luck!
Amy

Hey girls--

What someone told me when I rushed was to be sure to use the name of the girl who was rushing me 3 or 4 times--that the sweetest sound in the English language is one's own name. Like you would say, "Ashley, what kind of service projects do y'all do?" But don't overdo it!

Orchid, you'll like Jax State. A lot of girls from here go there!

I'm from Ozark, about 15 miles north of Dothan. It's in the southeastern part of the state http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Wine&BLue----I really liked the Pi Phi house at UA, when I went for panhellenic weekend this past spring. The girls were nice too!!

I'm glad you liked the house. We got kicked out of our old one when they expanded the stadium. We really fought hard for two years to get that house, and as a result we really bonded more than I think other houses do. It was one of those situations where you either fall apart, or you come together to fight and get stronger. We really did get stronger.

But I am especially glad that you liked the girls in the house. I hope you'll get to know them even better during rush.

Wine&Blue,
Since you're a Pi Phi at UA I'm sure you can help me with this question! I know that recs are really important at Alabama and I've gotten them to almost every sorority there. Pi Phi is one of the chapters that I don't have any recs to, and I've heard SO many good things about it, so my question is, is it true that I can't receive a bid to a sorority without any recs? Thanks!

I heard about the controversy at UA regarding deferred rush...but Recruitment is scheduled for September right now. Does anyone know anything about that?

Up until last year rush took place the week before classes began, now they've moved it to a couple weeks after classes start.

CRMSNTiDEGRL717 06-16-2001 06:24 PM

i think the deferred rush is actually on ly like a week after classes start, but i could be wrong. The dates are: Sept. 2 & 3,8-10!
Wine&Blue--- yeah, how important are rec's actually, ive heard so many different things.
Liz

Recs are very important. I know in most, if not all houses, you cannot get a bid without a rec. Rolltidesoon, I will email you about a Pi phi rec.

AlphaChiGirl 06-16-2001 09:08 PM

What houses are at UA? I tried to find their Panhellenic webpage, but could only find webpages for DZ, ZTA, and Pi Phi.

What's Auburn's Rush like? Is it like UAs, or more relaxed?

carnation 06-16-2001 10:32 PM

I don't know how intense Bama's rush is, but Auburn's is pretty rough. A lot of it is caused by rushees who come into rush saying, "I will only accept these 4 (or whatever) sororities," or worse yet, this one.

It isn't nearly as bad as UGA's, where many rushees have told me that many sororities kind of make it obvious from the beginning that they already know who they want. Worse yet, it's very hard to get into UGA--a 4.0 and a 1200 on your SAT may not suffice--so basically, everyone who goes there is outstanding and your high school activities start to look pretty drab if you listen to the other rushees.
