Junior--waste of time or worth the effort?
 

Next semester during Fall Formal Rush, I'll be a SENIOR!! I've always wanted to rush but never worked up the nerve to do so. I'm on the five year plan, so I'll have two years to dedicate to my "future" sorority. So my question to you is, should I even bother rushing?

Many sororities and their chapters have different policies regarding one's class status when rushing. I believe that there's no harm in rushing and by doing so you can get a better feeling of what your options are.

I would say that it would depend upon the campus. If it's really competitive to rush, you may end up getting cut only because of being a senior, even though you're on the five year plan. If rush is laid back, like ours is, then by all means, do it!! When I was pledge mistress (now called new member educator), one of the women in the pledge class was a 2nd semester junior. She loved it, and the only thing she wished she would've done was pledged sooner. I say go for it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Go for it! It is better to have two years as an active then none at all! Then you become an alummni! Once you are a sister, you are always a sister!

We pledge second-semester sophomores and first-semester juniors. Plus, we're always really big on transfers. I'd say go for it--where do you go to school?

I think you should definitely rush, regardless of what year you're in. I am currently going through informal rush as a second semester junior and I'm loving everything so far. The sisters have been very understanding since I'm a transfer student and I think they can look past the fact that I'll be active for only 2 years (like you). Go for it! shopgirl goes to UofA, she can probably speak to the general feeling of juniors/seniors rushing. It IS different at every school and from house to house as well.

I think it all depends on your campus. I think every chapter feels differently about memebrship and it also depends on the age of the chapter...do they have a lot of freshman or tons of seniors...
I would try and see what happens!

I say go for it... I had many friends in my fraternity, but did not become a brother till I was a senior. They took a chance on me because they realized that it was not only what I could do for the chapter as an undergraduate but the fraternity as a whole, and as a contributing as an alumni. No campus is going to out and out say we won't take juniors/seniors, but some don't. Mine didn't, and I think it is best if you gointo this informed, to avoid being hurt.

I go to a huge SEC school where most rushees are freshman. I transferred to the school in the middle of the year, missing fall formal rush. I rushed as a sophomore and did okay, although it was pretty hard, and I got some harsh cuts. I dropped out, but decided to go through again this year. I didn't get a bid - I was cut after round 2. I knew that I had about a 50% chance of getting a bid. If you can prepare yourself for the worst, try it, but if you don't want rejection, don't do it.
