Dating Greeks!
Are those of you who are members in GLO's also dating Greeks? Just a random question I was wondering about.
My boyfriend is also Greek, but he joined his GLO a year after we started dating. |
Right now I a am dating a member of one of our locals. It makes it rough finding time for each other in a jampacked schedule.

I have been dating a fellow greek for almost two years now. We met at work, set up a social between my sorority and his fraternity, and the rest is history. :D I personally think that it makes the relationship stronger because we understand that our lives are jam packed with events and things. But I love the idea of two greeks being together, with the potential to create a legacy for the sorority or fraternity!!!!!

I dated a Greek girl once. She told me Americans don't know how to make real Gyros. We were going to go to Athens where she was born but we broke up.

Dating a Greek??? Heck, I married her! :D
I met my wife (Kappa Alpha Theta - Gamma Omega chapter) while I was a freshman (and still a GDI) at Auburn through one of her pledge sisters. I later pledged AKL my sophmore year. I think that it really makes a difference in a relationship if both individuals are Greek or if just one is a brother/sister, or especially a pledge. As someone on GC points out; Greek Life - from the outside looking in you can never understand it, from the inside looking you can never explain it. I saw so many problems in couples where one individual just did not understand why the Greek had to be at chapter, a philantrophy event or at a social, etc... a ready point of conflict. Not that it can't work, like I noted, I was still an independent when we started dating but both my parents were Greeks and I had a good background on the idea of a sorority at least so it wasn't that much of a problem. It made a real difference when I was pledging, I can't imagine too many independents that would have been as supportive and understanding of the process as she was. Now we just have to get to work on providing legacy PNMs for Theta and AKL in roughly 2020. ;) It's Great to be Greek! :D |
Sounds great everyone!
Best of luck with those legacies! ;) |
I dated a greek and then married him this summer. He is a DU. He pledged the semester after I did. Woo hoo! And yes, I think it would be hard for anyone else to understand why I had retreats, had to be sequestered in a hotel for I-team, had meetings that lasted until midnight...those were things that a non-greek might have serious issues with. Not to mention the whole alumnae thing now...non-greeks tend to not understand that your sorority is a lifetime commitment...I am glad that he understands that!

yes I am seeing a greek in my brother fratnernity. It's hard, but we make the most of it.

i don't mean to offend the guys out there, but the fraternity guys on our campus can be just plain immature... of course you get that from any guy right?
i dated a ZBT for over a year. He's a nice guy and all, but i don't think i would do it again. lots of drama. If you really are dying to know the scoop, PM me. DOn't get me wrong, there are some cool guys out there that are greek, i just don't think i would do something long term with them. |
Yup, I'm dating a Kappa Sig.
|
My boyfriend of 4 years is a Sigma Chi - we met through the greek system at UBC just shortly after I joined DPhiE ( we didn't start to date for another 2 years after that)
|
All of the guys that I have dated since high school have been Greek.

Most of the guys I dated were greek, but I married a GDI. He didn't have a problem with the time commitment, which, after all, I had made long before I met him. He -was- bothered by my going to mixers - "You have me, what do you want to go hang out at a frat [sic] for?" - but when I explained that I was going, not to meet a guy to date, but to spend time with my sisters and with the guys in the fraternity in question, he was ok with it.
