formal rush

Hi. I am the rush chair for formal rush in the fall. This is the first time I have ever done formal rush, we have not been through formal rush in 2 years! Could I please get some ideas for rush. What do you guys do on preference night, and any good themes that have worked for you guys in the past. What should I do the night when we are not allowed to have a theme or decorate the suite?
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks a bunch.

Kathleen,

Have you contacted Theta Phi nationals for assistance? I know they have national recruitment chairman and they can provide you with themes, skits, etc. Also, have you tried contacting other Theta Phi chapters?

On the night you're not allowed to have a theme or decorate, have everyone dress somewhat the same (like polo shirts in the sorority colors and khakis). That way the chapter looks unified but they can't say you are having a theme. As for what to do that night, try playing trivial pursuit or pictionary for a while and then just chatting with the rushees.

Definitely try contacting the chapters near you for rush help - they may even be able to send some sisters to help you out if their formal rush isn't in the fall.

I agree with 33girl. We always wore letters and jeans or letters and khakis or something like that for our first round, when we weren't really allowed to decorate. For pref night, the sky's the limit. That's your last chance to get the women you want, so go all out. I don't mean rent a yacht and take them out on the lake, but have everyone dress up nicely, decorate your suite tastefully and most of all, enjoy yourselves.
