How to contact unknown roommate?
I am living in the upperclassmen apts in Florida. I was sent the name of my roommate and her phone number.
My question is should i call her and see what she is like? Or just wait until I move in to find out anything about her? i found her email on the school website-- but since that is the school email she probably doesn't check that one often. I know some schools even send addresses of their roommates bc I wrote a letter to my roommate my freshman yr. she sent me a letter back and then I talked to her on thephone and I could tell she was really dull and weird!! Turns out she was. |
I say call her. I called mine my freshman year. We ended up getting along and she lived with me in an apartment the next year.

Go ahead and call her. After all, you're going to be living with her. If you feel weird about it, you can say that you're calling to find out what she's bringing with her (i.e., a radio, a rug, a tv, etc.). That way you have an excuse to call.

I say call her. My roommate called me about a month or so before our freshman year. She did the whole "I'm bringing a TV & already have a mini-fridge" thing, so we worked out who could bring what. (She already had almost everything!)
We got along okay, but I could tell she was a "popular" girl @ her high school, so I didn't think we'd have much in common. We actually don't have a lot in common, but we did end up becoming good friends, and roomed together for THREE years! (Our senior year we both moved into separate apartments with other friends, and more than once she said she wished we still lived together. We got along great.) That first phone call kind of gave me an idea of what to expect, personality-wise. I suppose even if she would have been a total b*tch, I would've at least been prepared for it. |
