Appalachian State: need recs??
 

DD will be going through recruitment as a freshman this fall. I'm getting conflicting info on whether recs are necessary. Official school line says not necessary, but I've heard otherwise via scuttlebutt. What are advantages/disadvantages to having recs where they are not "necessary"? Will having recs put dd at a disadvantage if they are not the norm? Anyone have any experience with recruitment at this school?

Maybe someone from App State can give you better info but it's always been my understanding that it wasn't an absolute need there but would be helpful. And no, it would not be detrimental if you had them and the particular group didn't necessarily want them. That could have changed though.

Give yourself every advantage and get the recs. It would never hurt you to have the recs.

Some NPC sororities require a recommendation on each new member before she is pledged. Why not be proactive and get one for each chapter ahead of time...just in case?

This seems to be the new trend in recruitment... COLLEGES saying you don't need recs to PARTICIPATE in recruitment. Administration does not want any barriers to anyone participating and have as many girls take part in the process. Fine. But anything you can do to help the PNM stand out and be noticed among the crowd can only help her in the recruitment process.
