pregnancy test kits

I was just wondering if anyone out there knew how accurate pregnancy test kits at home are?

If you used first morning urine and have a very regular cycle, these tests will hardly ever give a false positive. This is especially true for the more sensitive 'early' detection tests.

The best and most accurate test is via your doctor's lab and having blood drawn. Most Planned Parenthood offices will do this for free or for reduced cost.

If you get a positive result schedule a blood test asap. Call your gyno and they'll tell you were to go.
Best wishes however it turns out.

They will hardly ever give a false positive (unless expired, always check the date), but can give a false negative. Listen to PnguinTrax when she says the best and most reliable test is having blood drawn at the Dr.'s office.

Home tests are looking for the presence of a chemical (HCG - I think) that is only present in the body during pregnancy. The problem becomes that some tests look for higher percentages, but don't say it on the box. Most look for around 85% - I believe, where as the Dr.'s test will detect much lower levels. You will not have that high of levels immediately after conception and in some women not till much later, so if you take it the first day you are late it may give you a false negative. You will need to retest in about a week if you still haven't gotten your period. If it gives you a positive you should definitely believe you are pregnant and head straight to the Dr. for confirmation.

Yeah, they are for the most part pretty accurate, but, if you're not having "symptoms" (nausea, tender breasts, etc) I'd go to the doctor to make sure. I did one of those urine tests (at the Pregnancy Center-don't remember what it was called), and mine turned almost IMMEDIATELY LOL. But I had symptoms and had never been late in 10 years, so I already kinda knew! ;)
